Philpex 2012 Opening Highlights

It was early August 2011 when the Philippine Philatelic Federation decided to hold a national stamp show that slated to be held to coincide the “ National Stamp Collecting “ month in November 2011. Early plans to hold the national stamp exhibition and competition was shove off for a later date was due to the following reasons: provincial stamp clubs must be properly informed and ample preparation must be made prior to the competition. FIAP and FIP rules strict rules must be properly disseminated to collectors.  Much needed publicity, promotion and sponsorship is needed for the event.

       It was not until an informal meeting late November 2011 that plans was re-set for the January 24, 2012 date of the opening.  This is Philippines most important and biggest stamp competition and exhibition. The winners of the national competition will have a slot for the FIP and FIAP international exhibition slated for 2012 and 2013 .

     Much needed sponsorship came from YKL-Fuji Film (photography and documentation of the event), Office of the Postmaster General –Mrs. Josie Dela Cruz, Philatelic Department, Marketing and Administration Department of Philippine Postal Corporation, Medals and Trophies from Mayor Alfredo S. Lim, Hon. Don Juan Bagatsing– Councilor of 4th district of Manila, Councilor – Majority Floor leader Hon. Honey Lacuna- Pangan, Senator Pia Cayetano , Hon. Maria Theresa B. Bonoan- David Congresswoman of the 4th district of Manila  , Atty. ChudneyNgo -Manila City Tourism and Cultural Affairs  Bureau ( for the banner and support during the duration of the event ), Dr. Ponciano Menguito– DEPED – Manila Superintendent, Mr. Jose Capistrano– Intramuros Administration Head , Saint Stephen High School , Far Eastern University , Polytechnic University of the Philippines among others which send large groups of students to view the exhibition.

The ingress was slated on January 18 , 19 and 20 ,  2012.   100 philatelic frames were exhibited at the lobby of Philippine Postal Corporation which represented the collections of members of various affiliated stamp clubs of Philippine Philatelic Federation from across the country.  The opening of the exhibit was on January 24, 2012. This is one day after the Chinese- New Year.

Likewise the author would also like to thanks all philatelists, coins, postcard and memorabilia collectors from different clubs and associations who went to the event.
