Hack the Climate 2014 Broke World Records!

This is the first official Guinness Book of World Record attempt for the longest hack-a-thon, lasted for 58 hours until past 10:30PM , longer than its target of 56 hours. The event opened from June 6 until June 8, 2014 .   From an initial of 41 teams ( June 6) ,  composed of different group of students, IT practitioners and professionals from different parts of the country .  By the time the team presented their project proposals, there were just about 30 plus team.

 Team Instigators
TEAM Instigators are behind “Tanaw“, the web application where you can check-in at an environmental landmark like-Foursquare and tell others about it and how to protect the place from possible environmental destruction. Every-time someone uploaded their photos of the site, People can also get some sort of reward points which they can redeem in some partner companies .   The winning team got two Apple Macbook Pro computers. The team was composed of Mr. Louis Michael Concepcion, Mr. Dominic Tuazon and Mr. Micheal Reynoso Gutierrez .

Team Instigators took home the grand prize after presenting the best environment-related app at the conclusion of Hack the Climate 2014.
Team Greenenergy
Another interesting team is Greenenergy , Their project is called : Danger Zone – The team is composed of Mr. Nicollo Chua, Mr. Ian Tajeda, Hideaki Calayan, Kilpatrick ” Kiru” Corral  ,  Angelon  Bute , Carl Domenique M. Gabuelo and Ms. Patricia Arante
Team Animus
The team developed an application software called ” Earth Savers” Ms. Patricia Alonzo , Ms. Charlene Ho, Mr. Juan Miguel Maningo and Ms. Rizzi Sanidad
Team Kiryu
Team Kiryu was led by Ms. Agnes Alcira , Mr. James Layug , Mr. Louie Magbanua and Mr. Joel Rykiel Ng
They invented an application device which can detect soil moisture thus this can help crops and ornamental plants on watering their produce during the summer months.

Team Super User placed second and won US$800. Rounding the top five finalists were Climate Savers, Sprout, and Animus.

The five groups won for themselves US $100,000 worth of Microsoft products each.

Sprout was also hailed as the winner of the People’s Choice Award after impressing 90 people in attendance for its project. Team Vito Crews placed second with 75  in the People’s Choice race.
Four-Leaf Clover, Public Energy Number 1, and Team Be Aware got the nods for the NGO’s Choice Award. Each team got an Apple iPod Touch.
Four-Leaf Clover made its hack-a-thon project available for Windows phones, and with that, Microsoft handed the team with Windows phones along with Idea 92.

Animus, for its one-of-a-kind game made for XBox 360 with Kinect, was also rewarded with a Windows phone.

  1. Hiya, Kix from the team superuser here. Thanks for blogging about the event and including our team in the mention. I want to point out though that we actually didn’t win a Windows Phone, we actually won a BizSpark account (which we still haven’t been able to claim unfortunately.) Many thanks!
