Exciting and NEW Menus at Kanto Freestyle Breakfast in Kapitolyo, Pasig

San Rafael corner 1st Street , Barangay Kapitolyo , Pasig CityPhilippines

Kanto Freestyle Breakfast Restaurant serves different Filipino fusion style foods with modern twist. Since the restaurant is owned and managed by a CHEF , expect that the ordinary food becomes an extraordinary feast . What is exciting about the restaurant is that they are now offering a new set of menus starting this week . We were among the first set of food and lifestyle bloggers to taste their new set of menus.

Kanto Breakfast , Pasig in a garage – setting

I was still a student when we used to ride Pasig -Quiapo whenever we had a long breaks in classes. My first class would start at 7:30am to 10:00am and the next one will be in late afternoon. We would take 1 ride from Quiapo and try to explore the other parts of Metro Manila.

Map of Barangay Kapitolyo, Pasig City

The Kapitolyo grounds and the adjacent streets became a beehive of people and restaurants. Pasig is the former capital of Rizal province and is adjacent to several commercial areas .

The restaurant is  a dining place in a garage-like setting, rusted and yet a feeling of being at home. The place can accommodate between 50 to 70 people at any given time. The area is much bigger compared to Mandaluyong branch  . However during mid-morning and late afternoon towards evening, there is a long queue of people from different parts of Pasig and nearby areas.

Toasted Ensaymada with Spanish bread and  Pan de Regla with cream anglaise

Ensaymada, Spanish bread and Pan de Regla with Creme Anglaise , They are commonly eaten for breakfast and as a light snacks . These 3 types of bread are common in neighborhood bakeries or even in sari-sari stores. What makes this special bread food is the combination of 3 types of bread and cream with glaze.

Arroz ala Cubana

Arroz ala Cubana is basically fried rice with fried saba banana with sunny side -up

open face chicken longgainsa sandwich with hollandaise

What amazes me is the style of plating, combination of ingredients which had a touch of class , or at par with some posh hotels and first class restaurants..

congee with egg and bacon strips

The congee is similar with the Chinese style but with an extra egg, bacon strips and with chop green spring onion leaves as topping – Php 85-  ideal for 1 to 2 person

croque madame

Croque Madame is a French classic  ham and cheese sandwich covered in cheesy béchamel, becomes a madame when a fried egg is placed on top of it. Php 85.00

croque monsieur

Croque Monsieur is another French classic ham and cheese with fresh tomatoes Php 85.00

ube white chocolate pancake

It has four branches: Mandaluyong, Libis, Pasig, and Marikina; all of them have that same rustic , hole-in-the-wall atmosphere. But setting aside its simple interiors, the restaurant’s service and offerings are the reasons why people frequent Kanto. Php 95.00

Mr. Vincent Juanta

Note: The author was personally invited to do a food review and presentation of new menus . According to the co-owner Mr. Vincent Juanta, He is currently chef de partie at Brentwood Hotel, New Zealand. He also worked as senior chef for M Cafe and Paseo Uno in Mandarin Hotel Manila  – The new menus have a price range of between Php 70 to Php 110

How to Get There:

By public transportation, take a Pasig-bound jeepney at Edsa Central terminal along Shaw Boulevard and tell the driver to drop you off at Kapitolyo (10minutes  to 15 minutes depending on the traffic ). Enter the gate beside Petron and turn right on the first corner (San Rafael Street). Then turn left along 1st Street. Before you reach Phil-Am Road, you will see Kanto Freestyle on your right side. They have a black gate. Php 8.50

Another option, You can actually walk along Shaw Boulevard right side going to the old-Capitol grounds , I tried walking the stretch going to the Kapitolyo area and it took me barely 25 minutes.

If you have car , try to enter the gate of Kapitolyo along West Capitol Drive. Landmark is the Petron station long the Kapitolyo roundabout. Right after the gate, turn right on the first corner onto San Rafael Street, and left onto 1st Street. Kanto Freestyle is on the right side of the road near the corner of Phil-Am Road. There are street-side parking spaces outside Kanto Freestyle.
