Old Paco Memorial Park on Postcard

I bought an old Paco postcard several years ago and completely forgot about it until a few days ago, when I decided to clean some plastic boxes where i hid some old postcards. I am glad to share this collection to my readers and followers.  This is quite appropriate since we are remembering All Saints Day and All Soul’s Day on November 1 and 2.

This is an old postcard printed around 100 years ago during the American colonial regime. Postal rates are 2 centavos (US and Islands ) and 4 centavos ( Foreign countries ) for outbound mail.  Since the Philippines is a US colony way back then, We can mail then to any parts of USA ,Puerto Rico, Guam and Northern Marianas .  Hence, I tried to ask some old time postcard and letter collectors about their opinion .

They all agree that Paco park is one of the most important landmarks of colonial Manila , prominent personalities were buried up until early park of the American colonial rule.  A lot of the postcards were send to the United States and even to some European countries send by travellers , navy men and locals . However interments ceased in 1912 and It was developed into a national park during the incumbency of President Diosdado Macapagal in the 1960’s .

Some of the frangipani shrubs (aka Kalachuchi) are still alive from the time the photos were taken over 100 years ago. It also showed the interior of the park with beautifully landscaped areas and niches. There are also several acacia trees are well over a century-old .

I have featured and went to Paco Park several times. i did a blog post several years ago, when i was interviewed by Ms. Sandra Aguinaldo about the old heritage trees that are still alive today located inside the park.
