A  50 feet  Christmas tree was lighted amid much fanfare , festivities and great bargain sale in this part of Metro Manila. In fact, this is Metro Manila’s second tallest Christmas tree after Araneta -Center in Cubao, Quezon City .

Now on it’s 9th year, the traditional Christmas tree lightning ceremony at the Tutuban Center , Manila’s Christmas shopping capital . This year’s theme “ Paskong Sulit sa Tutuban Center

The theme was meant to uphold the image of Tutuban Center as the place where Filipino families and friends can spend their Christmas shopping time and make it super sulit ( worth it / worth your money and happiness ) sa saya at sa oras ( worth the time)  for the family bonding.

The ceremony is held earlier than the usual unlike in the past when it was held every November 30 or during the celebration of Bonifacio Day. ” It was changed into an earlier date because we want to kick off the Christmas season earlier than usual this year ” , according to Ms. Tecson.

Christmas lantern ( parol ) finalists were displayed at the mall

The program started with the performance of winners of the mall-wide singing and dancing search contest held few months ago. There are also (parol) Christmas lantern making design contest and the finalists were displayed at the Tutuban Prime Center Block.

Since this year’ tree is much taller than previous ones, the tree-lightning ceremony is held at the Tutuban center shopping Plaza , accodring to Ms. Tecson , Previous tree-lightning events were held within Bonifacio Plaza beside the Bonifacio monument.
