70th anniversary of Australia and Philippines Friendship

The Australian embassy in partnership with SM Malls have exciting and information  exhibit and trade fair with highlighted the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Philippines.

Formal relations between the two countries were established when Australia opened its first Consulate General in Manila on 22 May 1946.

Australia’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Her Excellency Amanda Gorley , SM management , invited guests, media , bloggers and students from Xavier University .

“The exhibition highlights our political and trade ties, diplomatic ties and also the extent of our people-to-people links, which are quite extensive.”

She also added that over 250, 000 Filipinos are now living in Australia and over 10,000 Filipinos are studying in Australia’s world-class universities. Filipino language is one of over 300 languages spoken in Australia.

Through photographs, the exhibition captures the story of the relationship – like the people-to-people links, which continue to grow at an exciting pace. Over 250,000 Filipinos now call Australia home, making up the sixth largest migrant community in Australia, and who continue to make a positive contribution to Australian society.

 SM City North Edsa Atrium exhibit is from  May 12 to 19, 2016 .
