PostcrossingPH had a special leap year meet-up get together at the Philatelic and Resource Center within the Manila Central Post Office.

A special postcard was created by some members of the group to commemorate the special meet-up with thousands of postcards send to friends and postcard collectors in every corner of the globe.

February 29, 2020 is a leap year and it only occurs once every four years. Some of the members came all the way from Laguna, Antipolo, Bulacan and other parts of Metro Manila.

In this age of internet and social media, There are still people who still cherish getting a postcard or greeting card with all the traditional hand writings, stamps and postmarks.

There were at least 35 members who came in full force and a traditional jack en poy contest was held.  At the end of the game Ms. Ali Lao from Binondo won the postcards.

There was also a television series shooting entitled ” Love Thy Woman”  inside the post office lobby were celebrity Mr. Xian Lim was there.

There were over 20 table sellers which promotes different products, services and art sketches from different parts of the metropolis.

Another highlight of the event was live performance, nature pop-up stories, art exhibit,  talks and demonstration workshop on how to take care of tillandsia, cacti, succulent and ornamental plants.

I visited the bazaar and met the organizer of the event who told me that they will be having future shows and partnership with Greenhills Mall and Estancia Mall.

Meet and Greet with Councilor Ariel Argañosa of Majayjay, Laguna

Tito’s and Tita’s of Manila FB group visited the towns of Majayjay, Liliw, Nagcarlan and Los Baños in Laguna province.

We left past 4:30 am at Eaton Centris in Quezon City and the first van arrived past 8:00 am at the church plaza of Majayjay Church.

Majayjay had a lot of interesting places and saw a lot of native orchids, ferns, hoyas along the old trees and ancestral houses.

Honorable councilor Ariel Arcenal Argañosa Jr. (PDPLBN) of Majayjay met us for a short walking tour of the town’s old ancestral houses, shrines, historical places and market place.

He was the youngest elected councilor in the town and god a seal of good financial keeping by the Department of Interior and Local Government ( DILG).

All Plant Show at Evia Lifestyle Center

Philippine Nurserymen Association in collaboration with Arid and Aroids Event Management, Philippine Bonsai Society Inc., Succulent Club of the Philippines, Plant Hatter,Succulent and Spikes and Plantaholic Garden among others will be part of the ” All Plant Show” at the Atrium area, Evia Lifestyle CenterDaang Hari, Almanza Dos, Las Piñas, Metro Manila from February 28 to March 1, 2020.

There are no entrance fees during the 3-day event and the general public is invited to attend the series of talks, lectures, workshops, plant sale ! The show opens from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm during mall hours.

Highlights of the 74th Philippine Orchid Society Opening

74th annual had the opening held February 19 at the Garden of Joy ( formerly called Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ) or Flower Garden within Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City.

The event was organized by Philippine Orchid Society and affiliate plant society. The event started past 3:00pm and Quezon City symphonic band played the national anthem and opening band.

Bonsai and Suiseki Alliance of the Philippines exhibit

Among the big winners included Mr. Manuel and Susan Lee which won top prize in the orchid landscape exhibit. There is also several bonsai display from Bonsai and Suiseki Alliance of the Philippines ( BSAPI) and flowering bougainvilleas !

Individual orchid and plant competition among members and invited guests. Mr. Jan Lord Lumabao won top prize for his Vanda lamellata flowering orchid entry and second place in the Dendrobium discolor.

The 74th annual orchid show will have the daily lectures or demonstration with flea market bazaar with about 60 stalls selling different kinds of garden tools, plants, orchids, flowering plants, cacti and especially orchids.

A minimal entrance fees of Php 50 for the general public and Php 30 for senior citizens, students and person with disability.  The exhibit and selling area opens from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm daily until the show end March 2, 2020.

The daily lecture starts at 2:00 pm from February 21 and the show is until March 1, 2020.
