Las Flores : A Spanish Style Restaurant in Bonifacio Global City

Ground Floor, One Mckinley Place, 25th St. corner 4th St., Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City- Philippines

facade of the restaurant

LAS FLORES, which means “The Flowers“, is a collaboration between the former Barcino owners and the popular Andilana group of restaurants in Barcelona. They flew in a Catalan chef Pepe Lopez to help create an authentic modern Spanish restaurant here in Manila.  The restaurant opened in July 30, 2012 and occupies an area of about 164 square -meters.

botanical illustrations

I quickly fell in love with the place, I saw a lot of illustration and drawings of flowers from Spain and Mediterranean areas that are hung in a portion of the restaurant which emphasize why the place is called ” Las Flores”.

stylish interior

The restaurant can sit up to about 50 to 80 people at any given time. It is also ideal place to hold seminars, meetings and special occasions. There is also an outdoor area which can accommodate more people , especially on weekends .

Mousse de foie con Mango is some sort of appetizer , with bits of ripe mango slices , coupled with the arugula, caramelized pine nuts, and foie mousse was the perfect combination. ( Php325 )

manchego with mango jam and crispy bread

Manchego is a type of Spanish hard cheese made of sheep’s milk.  It was served with mango jam  and crispy bread. Chorizo Ibérico is a Spanish style dried-cured sausage with spices which originated from the Iberian Peninsula . The sausage is a popular Spanish gastronomic food.  Chorizo can be eaten cooked ,sliced or sauteed with a little bit of oil .  It was tasty and it was one of the first “tapas” offered in the early Spanish restaurants. It comes with two slices of Pan con Tomate  . It is a crispy bread topped with sauteed tomatoes . (Php 315 per 50 gram)

jamon iberico with crispy bread topped with sauteed tomatoes

Parillada de Verduras con Salsa Romesco –  Spanish style- grilled vegetable dish has green asparagus, sliced- eggplant, shitake mushrooms, red bell pepper, zucchini, cherry tomatoes, barb led potatoes, whole garlic , white onions topped with rosemary leaves . This healthy vegetable dish is a good match on a tapas meal . paella de marisco #21

Paella de Marisco #21  – This is a seafood variant of Spain’s most famous rice meal served right in its flat round shaped- pan.  It is a festive and colorful dish because each paella is a treated as work of art, not as a formula. Fresh prawns, clams, mussels , scallops and squid are mixed with arborio rice cooked to perfection . What is interesting about the paella dish is that they are individually numbered . This is also in my bucket list and a trip to Las Flores is incomplete without a sampling of this dish ! This is good for 2 to 4 people sharing. (Php 545) per serving.

flan de arandanos con nata

Flan de Arandanos con Nata  – blackberries egg flan with cream . This is quite similar with our Filipino style ” Leche Flan” however they have blackberries , cream and mint leaves which add more texture and different flavor to the flan.(Php 275).

wine  from different parts of the world  that is kept in refrigeration

According to our host , The wines  are kept away from sunlight and heat exposure, storing  them in  wine fridge which is  temperature controlled . Wide fluctuation in temperature will damage the wine and the cork. Ideal range of temperature for storing red wine is 50-55ºF or 10-16ºC. White wines can be stored at lower ranges at 45ºF.

wine stored in different levels

Another important factor is the humidity, which factors  important fine balance. If the humidity is too high, mold can grow and cellar woods and wine labels can be damaged. If the environment is too dry, the cork will crack and air will leak into the bottle, again ruining the wine. Ideal humidity for wine storage ranges from 60-75% Relative Humidity. Since i am not a wine connoisseur , i was stuck and awed by the wide array of wines from different parts of the globe.

flowering guzmanias placed at the main escalator of the hotel

The hotel main escalator had potted-live flowering plants which also serves as a flower arrangement , the potted plants can remain fresh for several weeks ! I even overheard some guests were asking whether those plants are real .

chocolate centerpiece

Marriott Hotel Manila is also the ultimate destination for meetings and events, from weddings to gala dinner celebrations., in-room safe, mini-bar, high-speed Internet, air conditioning, 40″ full high definition LCDs with IPTV, videos on demand and jack pack plug-and-play system. array of chocolates and snack items

Among the hotel long list of celebrity clientele included Congressman Manny Pacquiao and among others. Maxims Hotel is also a perfect place to relax offering six- star amenities , while Remington hotel offers a 3 -star amenities .  Our  tour within the Newport City is not fully complete due to time constraints ,  We promise our contacts to return back and maybe feature some historical tid-bits and attractions that Megaworld , Genting and their partners are up to in the next few months to follow.  It is also wise to become a member of Resort’s World , They have exclusive membership cards which is like a reward plus, aside from getting points when you use the cards in any of Newport City establishments , There are also several pick-up points around Metro Manila where shuttle vans waits for those members . I guess with all those amenities and membership perks , no wonder ‘why’ this entertainment city can rival some of Asia’s best   and brightest cities !
