6 Important Highlights of TernoCon 2018 in SM Clark, Pampanga

TernoCON 2018 open with a big splash in the activity area of SM Clark field in Pampanga province. The terno exhibit covers 28 finalists and winners at the recently held TernoCon competition in 2018.

It also coincide with “Buwan ng Wika” month of August where promotion of Filipino language, arts and culture is emphasized.

Preparation

From May 8-10, 2018 a mentoring and preparatory workshop was conducted at the CCP. The Project’s Artistic Director Gino Gonzales together with Ternocon Chief Mentor Inno Sotto, regional mentors JC Buendia (Luzon), Cary Santiago (Visayas), and Len Cabili (Mindanao) shared their respective philosophies and design processes with 30 participants.

6.) Promotion of Philippine Ternos– Ternos which is an epitome of modern Filipina takes it roots from Pre-hispanic era, Spanish colonial era, American, Japanese and post war era.

Terno” was derived from the English word for “matching,” or ” to match”  has evolved over centuries. The dress also evolve from one colonial master to another. According to some fashion authorities, the design was from the baro’t saya and through the decades saw it innovative designs and modern interpretations, whether in structure, materials, or coloration evolving into what we see today.

5.) Use of of Indigenous Weaves or Textiles– Several of the terno on display use regional, local fabrics like abaka, jusi, abel iloko even old rags were use in making terno and evening gown.

4.) Collaborative Efforts – several well known companies, designers and cultural groups like  Slim’s Fashion and Arts School, Steven Tan of SM-MOA, SM Super Malls, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Bench and celebrities worked to make this project highly successful.

3.) Mentorship – Well known Filipino fashion designers like J.C Buendia, Inno Sotto, Cary Santiago and Len Cabili  who serves as mentor for the new designers on how to create a beautiful work of art.

2.) New Designs–  Twenty-eight designers were finally chosen and asked to create one cocktail version of a balintawak and one formal evening terno each as entries to the competition.  Unlike the old terno, all the terno exhibited at the TernoCon 2018 were design and created by these new generation of artist.

1.) Home Grown Talent– Mr. Marlon Tuazon which won the “GOLD” award, hails from the province of Pampanga. This is like a homecoming exhibition for the Kapampangan artist as well as many of designers who hails from this region.

TernoCon 2018 exhibit is from August 2 to 9, 2019 at the Activity Area of SM Clarkfield, Pampanga province. Do not miss this exhibit. There are no entrance fees and one will be proud to see the modern design concept by these artists.

6 Important Galleries at Museo de Intramuros

Museo de Intramuros had been officially open to the public last April 29, 2019 with Department of Tourism secretary Ms. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, former Department of Tourism secretary Gemma Cruz – Araneta, Miss Universe 1973 Maria Margarita Moran among others in attendance.

The museum is managed by the Intramuros Administration (IA), which is an attached agency of the Department of Tourism (DOT), Museo de Intramuros is located in two important reconstructions inside the walled city. the San Ignacio Church and Convent and the Mission House of the Society of Jesus.

The in-house exhibition were curated by Ms. Esperanza Gatbonton, Mr. Gino Gonzales, Ms. Cecilia dela Paz, Ms. Santiago Pilar and Mr. Martin Tinio.

6 Galleries or Exhibition Area

Museo de Intramuros have six sections or galleries : the Immaculate Conception, the Religious Order, the Patronato Real and establishments of Parishes, Religious Colonial Paintings, the establishment of parish and sacred vessels, and The Indio Response. Throughout these sections, you will be able to find different kinds of artwork, including paintings, sculptures, and antique items from hundreds of years ago.

This statue is one of the crown jewels of the Intramuros administration. The statue is taken out during the annual marian procession.

The museum has over 7,500 pieces which were accumulated for 40 years from different parts of the country.

Special Miss Universe Stamps Issued by PHLPOST for 2017

A set of Miss Universe stamps will be issued by Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPOST) to commemorate the hosting of the country of the Miss Universe 2016/ 2017 this coming January 30, 2017 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The stamps featured the 3 title holders of the Philippines, Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz, Miss Universe 1973 Maria Margarita Moran and 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.

The issuance is highly anticipated not only by stamp collectors, but also beauty and pageant aficionados, memorabilia collectors from all over the world.

The set includes a mini sheetlet and Php 100 pesos souvenir sheet stamp, A set of two which also includes first day covers.

The stamps can be use to send letters, postcards and parcel going within the country and other parts of the world.

This type of issuance is called stamps on stamps, since PHLPOST had issued stamps in 1994 to commemorate the hosting of the country.

Miss Universe 2015 Special Stamps to be Issued by PHLPOST

The Philippine Postal Office will release a commemorative stamp in honor of 2015 Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach.

Philippine  Postal Communication office added that no member of the 8-person Philippine  Postal Corporation ( PHLPOST ) stamp advisory committee objected  the proposal when this was presented  to the committee  sometime late December 2015 of having a commemorative stamp for Ms. Pia Wurtzbach.

Ms.Pia Wurtzbach will be the third Philippine title holder of Miss Universe to have a special stamp. The 2 former Miss Universes includes Ms. Gloria Diaz and Maria Margarita Moran .

The last time PHLPOST issued a commemorative stamps for Miss Universe was May 1994 when Miss Universe was hosted in the country for the second time.  As of the press time , PHLPOST representatives were in talks with the Binibining Pilipinas Charity Incorporated franchise holder of Miss Universe in the country since 1964.

They are planning to launch the special stamp during her arrival anytime from January 23,to January 30 2015 .

 

 

 

Manny Pacquiao Commemorative Stamps to be Issued by PHLPOST

 Philippine Postal Corporation will be releasing special postage stamps to show support for eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao as he faces Floyd Mayweather Jr. in what is dubbed as the “Fight of the Century.” Set to be released for Php 10 each, PHLPost will be putting out a total of 500,000 copies of  the Manny Pacquiao “Fight of the Century” postage stamps. 30,000 copies of the souvenir sheet will also be released, priced at Php 40 each. Aside from the Php 40.00 souvenir sheet.

There will be First Day Cover which will cost around Php 100 plus 12% VAT and the ordinary Php 10.00 definitive stamp.

Pacquiao was already featured in a postage stamp in 2008, ahead of his June bout with David Diaz.  It is rare that Phlpost issues living Filipinos , Aside from current presidents , visiting head of states past issuance included Miss Universe 1969 Gloria Diaz and Miss Universe 1973 Margarita Moran  commemorative stamp which was issued in 1994 when the country hosted the Miss Universe pageant. Miss World 2013 Megan Young is one of the few living Filipinos honored with such issuance. The stamps, souvenir sheets and official first day cover shall be available at the Central Post Office, Door 203, Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila and  post offices nationwide.  For inquiries, please call 527-01-08 or 527-01-32.
