The Summer Games of the XXX Olympiad is scheduled from July 27 to August 12, 2012  to take place in London, United Kingdom. This will also be the second time for Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II to grace the opening ceremonies of the Olympic games , her first one was in 1976 in Montreal, Canada.

These 30th Olympic Games London 2012, has adopted the slogan of “Live as One” and the motto of “Inspire a Generation”.

London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and in 1948. London was selected as the host city for the 2012 Olympics out of the nine cities that submitted bids by 15 July 2003.

Over 10,000 athletes from 204 National Olympics Committees (NOCs) are expected to participate. In the course of 19 days, athletes from around the globe will compete in 26 fields, in 39 different sports and in 34 separate venues. London 2012 Olympic Games begin on 27th July 2012 with the theme slogan ‘Inspire a Generation’.

There will be 11 Filipino athletes that will be competing in the 30^th Olympiad.

The Philippines had begun issuing commemorative  stamps  of Olympic Games since the 17^th Rome Olympics in 1960.

     According to a Philpost employee, as part of the memorandum of agreement with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and International Olympic Committee (IOC) 5% of the sales proceeds will go to POC since there is the use of the POC and IOC logo.

Note : As of this writing there was a heavy demand from stamp and even Olympic memorabilia collectors in the country but also abroad. The author had waited for several hours at the Manila Main Central Post Office.

Highlights of the 1st Coca Cola Collectors Fair 2018

Coca-Cola Collectors Club of the Philippines in close partnership with Coca-Cola Philippines had conducted a highly successful 1 day collectors fair at the Fisher Mall in Quezon City.

The opening program started at around past 10:00 am with a short program, group photo of the special guest of honors which included former Senator Ana Dominique Coseteng ( also a coke collector), Miss Jonah De Lumen – Pernia Dir. Public Affairs and Communications Coca-Cola Philippines, Miss Rosbel Q. Bunag of Stratworks PR agency and representatives of Fisher Mall.

There are about 50 to 60 table exhibitors at the fair. Coke collectors from different parts of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Quezon, Laguna, Tarlac, Pampanga and Batangas provinces were all out with their support for this fair.

Mr. Jacque M. Ruby country head of A+E Network ( HistoryconPH organizer) and some local celebrities also attended the fair later in the afternoon.

Ms. Macel Pascual is a coke collector for several years. She had a lot of unique items exhibited during the fair. This includes coke bags, kitchen utensils, coke bottles and advertisement posters.

Mrs. Adelina Almirol is a coke collector from Marikina. She collects thematic items such Christmas coke village, bottles, flip-flops, miniature coke vending machine and had a cute coke sari-sari store. The miniature coke sari-sari store was created thru the help of Mr. Geraldo Reyes.

She was also featured several years ago, when she hosted a swap meet of Pinoy Coke Fanatic   last March 1, 2014. She also gave me an interesting form of Dendrobium aphyllum ( aka fairy sanggumay ).

CHINA Outshines Philippines in HOSTING the 2019 FIBA WORLD Championships

China edged Philippines as FIBA board members had chosen the sporting and economic powerhouse . Its presentation which showed that the country that hosted several key important events like Summer 2008 Olympic Games , 2010 Asian Games,  2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics among others .  Among its pitch are the 300 million Chinese basketball fans, over 3,000 basketball schools and at least 100,000 hotel rooms available in 8 major cities which are hosting the event. Plus over 1.3 billion Chinese . With that impressive and mammoth presentation. No country can probably match what CHINA host committee can offer.

The presentation projecting the success of the country in hosting major world events and how professionally it had shown to the entire world that CHINA can make it BIG TIME and it means Business.

They will also host the upcoming 2015 Fiba Asia Championships. “China never, never lets you down,” said Chinese Basketball Association President Yu Zaiging in the 20-minute presentation

China also boasted of holding the Fiba World Cup, which is held every four years, in eight keys cities which are easily connected by several forms of modern transportation.

The Philippines which banked on the Filipinos’ passion for the sports and reach on social media in its bid for the hosting, with a presentation focusing on its strength in infrastructure, hosting experience, and resources. Plus the fact that the country is becoming an economic powerhouse.

The announcement of the hosting was initially scheduled for 5:25 p.m. Manila time but was moved to 6:15 p.m.

Majority of the Filipino netizens were quite dismayed over the FIBA decision but many say that it is like DAVID vs. Goliath scenario .  David = Philippines , Goliath = CHINA , now had the upper hand with the presentation .

Some people thinks that FIBA has already made their decision on giving CHINA hosting rights after the successful hosting of the country of FIBA Asia Championship several times. It wanted a more concrete plans and of course MONEY in hosting the event. Some netizens said that FIBA is looking for MONEY # PERA rather than # PUSO because pure heart does not translate into cold cash .

The list goes on and on, BUT i think the country had already proved itself capable in hosting BIG time event like FIBA in 1978 and maybe in the near future. As they always say,- “Back in the Drawing Board” .  I personally think that the country must focus on regional events like SEA Games in 2019 or maybe another shot in hosting ASIAN Games before hosting FIBA or any international events. Hosting an event needed money and it does not guarantee a hefty payback .

• Note- I have watched the live-stream from FIBA and some news from Tokyo . I think based on the delays on the decision of FIBA board and its members,It must be more on getting an overwhelming majority votes .
• According to the FIBA website : The FIBA Central Board composed of 21 members voted 14-7 in favor of China Friday, August 7 in Tokyo, Japan for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup hosting, according to a press release from FIBA.
• As a third world country like the Philippines, hosting a BIG event such as FIBA requires MONEY and infrastructure , in which CHINA is capable of upstaging given to the relatively size of their country and people.

Philippines is to host the 30th SEA Games in 2019

Manila, Philippines The country has formally assumed the responsibility of hosting the 30th Southeast Asian Games or SEA Games. This is a biennial sporting event that 11 southeast asian nations compete. It was learned that Brunei Darussalam -host for 2019 SEA Games has back-out last month .

Philippine Sports Commission chair  Mr. Richie Garcia announced yesterday that existing facilities would be used in the Manila SEA Games 2019 with the bulk of the events to be held in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

There is no promise by the  to build a new stadium. There are some newly build centers like SM MOA Arena with a sitting capacity of over 20,000 people , Philippine Arena ( indoor ) 55,000 people and open stadium 20,000 people which can act as alternative venues.

Philippine Olympic Committee first vice president Joey Romasanta earlier confirmed that the POC executive board had passed a resolution accepting the hosting chores for the 2019 Games.

He said the POC would officially communicate the decision to the SEA Games Federation, the policy-making body of the 11-nation regional competition. “It’s very hard to make a projection (budget for the Games) because it will happen four years from now,” said Garcia. “But we have a general idea as to how much it will cost because we are not going to build any large infrastructure.”

Malaysia will host the biennial meet in 2017 with a budget said to be between $180 million (P8.1 billion) and $220 million. Singapore spent about $240 million in hosting the SEA Games last month.

The country hosted the event three times in 1981, 1991 and 2005.
