10 Important Events at Quezon City’s 80th Anniversary

Quezon City government in partnership with dozens of cause -oriented groups, advocacy group, volunteer organizations, business establishments started the kick-off celebrations on October 12 and 13 at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The event was dubbed Pista sa Kyusi which had a two day event celebration.

Thousands of employees, students, cause oriented groups, bloggers, vloggers and the general public had a rare chance to attend some events, concerts, trade fair, cook-off challenge, art event, sports event, bureau of fire special service section and food fair held within the famed landmark.

10.) Quezon City hall grand parade- A grand parade which started within Quezon city hall ground and wereheld around past 7:30 am and moved to Liwasang Aurora at the middle of the Quezon Memorial Circle.

9.) Mobile Library exhibit- There were 3 mobile library which is on constant on the move within many parts of the city.

The mobile library provide several valuable services like reading literacy awareness, story telling, puppetryshocas among children and students of the city.

8. Free QCX entrance – students, heritage advocates, bloggers, ordinary people and even foreign tourist were treated to a whole day of FREE entrance at the QCX museum. There are a lot of see and experience at the museum.

For those who wanted to know and learn more of the city’s history, heritage, art, culture, advocacy. This is a must visit place.

7. ) Trade Fair- There were over 80 booths which showcases different products, native crafts, organic material, advocacy group, health and wellness, photography group, art association and food.

6.) Food Fest – There were several food events held at the site. We were fortunate to witness the barbecue cook-off challenge from 6 barangays within the city.

There were two representatives from the barangay. One of the challenge includes pork barbecue cooked-off.

5.) Art and Drawing Sessions- several well-known artists showcase their talents in painting and giving free art lessons. There were also art competition among young and budding artist of the city.

4.) Plant Stalls- There are several plant stalls located within the park. One can choose from different kinds of plants, ornamental flowering plants, herbs, orchids , pots among others.

3.) Zumba and Dance Sessions- The group provides free zumba and dance session. One can just join -in with the group.

1.) Garden of Joy and Other Landmarks- This is an important landmark for plant, orchid and horticulture lovers.  This used to be called Flower Garden or Hardin ng mga Bulaklak and now called Garden of Joy.

We hope that the orchids, ferns, bromeliads and other plants mounted on the trees within the garden will be properly nurtured taken cared off. Since a lot of the plants were donated by members of plant organization.

One must also try to visit other well-known landmarks like Quezon Memorial Shrine, Presidential Car Museum, Quezon Heritage House and soon to open President Aquino replica house when one visits Quezon Memorial Circle.

Big Celebrations at Quezon City’s 80th anniversary

Big celebration, citywide contest, street bazaars, medical outreach project, lot of activities are geared up for the upcoming 80th anniversary of the founding anniversary month of Quezon City.

According to Mayor Joy Belmonte -Alimurong, 16 outstanding individuals and five institutions will receive the Manuel L. Quezon Gawad Parangal awards 2019 in honor of their valuable contributions to the development of the nation on October 19 at Areté, Ateneo de Manila University.

The festivities began with the enthronement of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary-La Naval, the city’s patron saint, on October 2 at the Quezon Memorial Circle (QMC).

This was followed by the arrival of the Marian icon at the Quezon City Hall lobby on October 3.

On Philippine Councilors League Week starting October 8, health services will be offered free and on wheels with Health Caravan.

On October 9, the city will host the Talent Night of Miss Earth International at the Quezon City Experience (QCX). An annual international environmental-themed beauty pageant, Miss Earth is a pageant franchise that started in Quezon City in 2001.

Free medical consultation and health talks will be available especially for poor communities as the caravan tour two districts in a day until October 10.

Pista sa Kyusi (#Kyusi@80) will be held from October 12 until October 13 at the Quezon Memorial Circle will be free concert, bazaars, art competition,  sport activities,barangay cook off challenge among others.

The QC Public Employment Service Office meanwhile announced that more than 6,400 job vacancies will be up for grab at the Mega Job Fair on October 8 and 25 at the QC Hall Grounds.

Agencies and companies from different industries such as fast food, manpower, overseas, and call centers will participate in the job fair.

It will be highlighted by the 2.5km and 5km Fun Run that will be led by the QC Hall Employees Athletic Association (QCHEAA) with well-known fitness coach and 2018 Gawad Parangal awardee, Mr. Jim Saret.

Other activities during this weekend include free rappelling and wall climbing, art competition for High School Students, exhibition of best QC barangay bands, Mocktail Mixed Drink with Flairtending Competition, Cocktail Mixed Drink with Flairtending Competition, QC Symphonic Band concert, and an outdoor film showing.

In partnership with St. Lukes Medical Hospital, a free medical and dental mission will be available to the public on October 13 at the lobby of the QC Hall.

Celebrating the artistic brilliance of the city, QCinema International Film Festival will run from October 13 to 22.

With the theme “A Rising Wave,” this year’s festival focuses on the strides of Asian filmmakers around the world and recognizes the growing number of women filmmakers joining competitions for documentaries and short films.

Moviegoers can catch must-see cinematic treasures that will be showcased at the festival at partner movie theaters UP Town Center, Robinson’s Magnolia, Trinoma, and SM City North Edsa.

On the third week, two book launchings will take us to the past and back to the contemporary time.

“The City with a Soul” book will be launched first on October 15 at the Quezon City Experience (QCX).

Written by Dr. Luisa T. Camagay of the University of the Philippines, the book tells the history and documents the journey of the city envisioned by the late President Manuel L. Quezon as “a city with a soul.”

It was an offshoot of data-gathering originally done to provide materials for the establishment of the city’s museum now known as QCX.

This will be followed by the launching of “Quezon City Food Journal” on October 19 at Eastwood Mall Atrium.

It is a compilation of stories of successes as well as the humble beginnings of 40 proudly QC restaurants and food purveyors that originated from the city.

October 30-31 at the Smart Araneta Center – there will be a hackathon with the Philippines is set to break a Guinness World Record as we solve world problems through an ethical hackathon led by Impact Hub Manila and all its partners.
