Filipino and Asian Home Style Dishes at Fely J’s Kitchen in Uptown Mall

 The group were hungry after an event at the Grand Hyatt hotel.  It was past 12:30 pm when we went to the Uptown mall within Bonifacio Global City or simply called (BCG) in Taguig.

We were craving for something Filipino and home cooked dishes. Fely J’s Kitchen is just located near the escalator of the mall. We decided to eat at the restaurant without thinking of other restaurants within the mall.

Some of the bloggers/ vloggers are in such a hurry covering another event that they wanted to eat. Mommy Lariza lost no time in ordering set meals ( Set C) which we saw at the menu board.

Fely J’s Kitchen is dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Felicidad de Jesus-Cruz, mother of LJC Group founder Larry J. Cruz, features Fely J’s treasured recipes. This is the second restaurant which opened within Metro Manila, the first one was in Greenbelt 5, Makati.

The restaurant had quite a big sitting capacity ( indoor had about 100 ) while outdoor patio area had another ( 50  patio area) with total sitting capacity of about 150 at any given time.

The place had a homey ambiance with several old photographs of old Manila like Binondo church, treasured family photos, books and figurines are found within the restaurant.

Our group only waited for just few minutes, the first to be serve was the ice tea followed by tokwa at baboy ( fried tofu with pork, chop onions, chop banana chilies with soy sauce and vinegar).

Tokwa at Baboy is just like the same as those cooked in other popular Filipino restaurants. They should have added bits of fresh cilantro leaves, Nothing fancy.

One of the first dishes to be serve is the Crispy pata with atchara and dipping sauce. This is followed with white rice, pancit canton, pork and bangus sinigang, grilled chicken inasal , seafood kare-kare with bagoong and gising gising.

I liked all of their dishes particularly the gising-gising which had a balance of spice, sweetness ,nicely chopped kangkong stems and bits of pork meat.  However the coconut milk ( gata ) is a bit watered down for my taste.

LJC group  of companies which also included Abe’s Farm in Pampanga, Lorenzo’s Way, Bistro Remedios, Cafe Adriatico, Cafe Havana, and Polka Dot Bakeshop to name a few celebrates their 40th anniversary.

The staff were quite attentive, friendly,courteous when some of us, ask them for a quick group shots from our cameras.

I will surely come back to eat their other specialties, One of my friend told me that their temple crab, braised short ribs, lumpiang sariwa, lechon kawali, binagoongang baboy are worth ordering.

Lakad Pamana dabarkats whenever we had provincial tour would sample local dishes and restaurants . Norzagaray is particularly rich in local foods and had its share of well-known restaurants and culinary heritage.

After the hearty lunch buffet which consists of cripsy pata and crispy fried chicken with special soy sauce and atchara from JL Jamie’s Crispy Pata and Restaurant , fried dalagang bukid , munggo , rice and soft drink.  , We proceeded at the San Pedro’s pavilion for another round of food trip.

We were invited to the birthday party  of the local tourism officer and community affairs officer III   Ms. Maricar San Pedro husband held at the San Pedro’s residence . The hosts graciously “welcomed” the group despite last minute advisory .

We took some time to sample sample food that the caterer served . Their specialties included  Arroz de Valenciana ,  vegetable chopseuy , steamed prawns, lengua estofado ( ox tongue ) , lumpiang ubod with sauce , spaghetti carbonara , sinampalukan manok ( chicken soup cooked with young tamarind leaves)  , lechon .  Desserts like serbert made from lychee and buko , coconut and beans  and fresh slices of watermelon .

San Pedro’s Pavilion is a private function area with the property of the parents of Ms. Maricar San Pedro -Pelayo .

The place is good for weddings, baptism or special event.  It can be rented for Php 6,000 during day time and Php 7,000 during nigh-time.

There are smaller gazebos within the property for smaller group – around 10 to 12 people. We finally took an opportunity to have our photo taken with the mayor together with the gracious host . Some  bloggers had an informal conversation with Ms. Maricar San Pedro-Pelayo about the role of tourism in their municipality .

We finally bid farewell to our gracious host and proceeded to the next destination for  food tasting .

JL Jamie’s Crispy Pata

JL Jamie’s Crispy Pata and Restaurant- This restaurant is one of the best places to dine whenever you are in Norzagaray , Bulacan. They also have a branch located in Santa Maria , Bulacan.  The restaurant is located  near the Norzagaray Municipal Hall grounds so almost every government employees had eaten at this place.

The place is had an interesting nipa hut and tree house , The nipa hut is good for small group . We were met by the manager and daughter of the proprietor .

The Crispy Pata  price range Php 550 to Php 650. According to one of the staff, it take more than 4 hours to boil the crispy pata and deep fry  into perfection.

We also liked the crispy bituka with vinegar and chopped chillies and onions . There is no after taste or rancid smell coming from the pork intestines .

The restaurant was featured in several television shows like Biyahe ni Drew Arellano which aired on September 2, 2013 , Day Off of QTV channel 11 which aired on June 28, 2014 and Ms. Doris Bigoria of ABS-CBN channel 2 visited the restaurant on December 30, 2015 .

There are a lot more local restaurants that we failed to visit during the tour ,  i am sure that there will still lot more restaurants to visit.

Fun and Delightful Set Meals at Giligan’s Restaurant in SM North EDSA SkyDome

Giligan’s Restaurant name was inspired by a popular US television series in the 1960’s . Hence the themed place is known for their  sea inspired or ship inspired interiors.

This is not my first time to visit this place. In fact – Whenever , we have foreign guests or friends coming – We would always treat them to any branch that is near .

Their menu has wide choices of authentic Filipino all-time favorite. The price is just right and servings are quite huge , very fulfilling.

  For those planning to bring friends or family member, I suggest that you try to order set meals which cost 20% cheaper .  There are set meals which is good for 4 , 5 , 6 people. Thus, you have a choices of availing their unlimited rice or ice tea. The ordinary white rice which was included in the set meal was upgraded into seafood fried rice. We just add Php 79.00 . I am not a big fan of their fried rice as compared with other Fil-Chinese dishes. The rice is a little bit soggy .

We liked the way the crispy pata was cooked . The dish also comes with soy sauce dip . Ideal for 3 to 5 people sharing – Php 473.00

We also liked their Lechon Kawali ala Cebu – They are sold at 100 grams, 200 grams – Php 218 per 200 grams – Ideal for 3 to 4 people sharing .

We also ordered Pancit Canton -Guisado . Since we got a birthday celebrant. The only downturn is that it is a little bit salty . An order cost Php 140.00 .  Our first option was the miki-bihon . This is a noodle dish which is mixed with 2 kinds of noodles.  egg noodles (thicker and yellow)  and rice noodles ( white and thin noodles) .  Unfortunately , It was out of stock .

Pork Madness at Livestock Restaurant and Bar in Sergeant Esguerra Avenue , Quezon City

The restaurant is called Livestock because they owned a piggery, the biggest one in Bulacan province. The place is near Will’s Tower Mall and Condominium around the vicinity of Barangay South Triangle.

The Restaurant had opened its door only last year , The dining area can accommodate about 75 people at any given date and its AL- Fresco dining area can sit around 40 people. When we wanted a place to hang-out or just to relax ,  Livestock is the answer ! It is a place for pork madness and a whole lot to offer to the visiting clientele.

The place had a function room which can accommodate 80 pax . The room  can be divided into 2 smaller room with a sitting capacity of 40 .

We were met by Ms. Moonu Magdangal , Ms. Rowena Abunda and Ms. Ching Magdangal -Uy when we visited the place. This is not my first time to eat at the restaurant , one of my favorite menu is the livestock cracking pork and bacon ice cream sandwich .

Celebrities includes Mr. Joem Bascon , Ms. Angel Locsin, Mr. Joey Marquez, Mr. JC De Vera , Mr. Kim Atienza,  Mr. Anthony Taberna ,Mr. Paolo Contis, Mr. Henry Omaga-Diaz  , Mr. Noli De Castro of ABS-CBN channel 2 among others.

The place is also known for their  refreshments such as imported wines, salabat  ( ginger ) tea and fruit  smoothies

This is one of the signature dish that the restaurant offers to their clientele , It is made from pig tail marinated with herbs and spices . It is crunchy and can be shared with 4 to 5 people. It is best accompanied with vinegar dip  – Php 280 per serving

Livestock pizza

Livestock Pizza  is a thin pizza dough with mozzarella cheese, urugula salad , quesong puti , cherry tomatoes, black olives , adobo chicken and pork flakes and tomato sauce. The combination of ingredients in this dish is fascinating. MUST TRY at Php 395 per order

 Seafood Laksa-  I love how the chef had mixed all the ingredients from vermicelli noodles  , prawns,muscles , squid  coriander leaves , fresh mung bean sprouts and the spiciness . It is the only seafood dish of the restaurant .  Ideal for sharing with 4 to 5 people MUST TRY Php 290

This is one of my favorite menu in the restaurant .  The pork is marinated with special sauces and spices stuffed with  fresh herbs like lemon grass .

It is then roasted until crispy , It is best accompanied with the special livestock’s liver sauce and vinegar.  It is a boneless and tender lechon! You can easily cut the pork belly into several bite sized portion without any hassle.

Melts in Your Mouth – Crispy Pata

The Crispy Pata or Deep- Fried Pork Knuckles is so soft you could cleave it with a Popsicle stick. The crispy pata is served in a wooden tray with condiments made from soy sauce and vinegar mixture together with chopped onions , garlic and chilies .

It literally melts in to your mouth !!! It was well-cooked that the inside meat was tender and so soft! It can be easily cut through by just using a single popsicle stick .  MUST TRY Php 590 per serving

It is a rice with fresh button and shitake mushrooms simmered in chicken stock .

Petite- Php 130 ( ideal for 2 to 3 people)  Grande -Php 348 ( ideal for 4 to 6 people)

Pork Cheek Bourguignon is braise in red wine sauce while the other is in creamy soup base.  The flavors of both dishes are distinct .  The dish is said to originate in Burgundy region of France.  The one in red wine or what is commonly known as bourguignon with sliced carrots and mushrooms .  Php 380 per serving.

Kangkong Sambal with Pritchon Lechon is a combination of two dishes. It also have fried chopped garlic as toppings.

 Bacon Ice Cream Sandwich is plain vanilla ice cream on French Toast. It is sprinkled with bacon strips to blend a little saltiness to the sweet dessert taste and topped with mint leaves . Ideal for 1 to 3 people Php 180

I would give a thumbs -up for this restaurant , i liked the ” Pork Theme ” and their dishes. The restaurant is open to catering services and reservations.

MB Mallari’s Crispy Pata

The PNPCSI secretariat after the MOA signing in Pampanga Agricultural College,  went on a road trip to ABE Farm Resort and Le Verde Motel within Magalang town. We decided to look for a place to eat .

The group then decided to give this small quaint restaurant a second look, the unassuming tarpaulin poster .  We wanted to taste a home grown specialty of the place.

The group was greeted by the proprietors of the restaurant .  Sir Bobby Zapata then ordered the in-house specialty of the restaurant- Crispy Pata  .

History :  While waiting for our orders  , Our group have a short talk with the proprietors . They are meat vendors at the nearby Magalang Public Market for almost 10 years.   Mrs. Mallari – the owner of the eatery said that she begun experimenting different style of marinating and cooking styles of Crispy Pata . Then she started her home based business catering to her neighbors and immediate family members about 3 years ago.  She notice the steady increase of her customer base through  word of the mouth advertisement .

Some of her clientele would even buy frozen Crispy Pata bound for France and the United States ! Then they decided to open an outlet near the main plaza of  Magalang town.

Our group enjoyed this  hearty meal , Their pata is crispy but the meat portion  is tender and soft. The soy sauce and vinegar condiments with chopped chili peppers , chopped garlic and chopped onions  best accompany the pata with ordinary rice. Our group was also given another in-house specialty munggo

  The eatery also serve Fried Itik and can accommodate between 25 to 30 persons in any given time .  According to the owners, for those who wanted to order their crispy pata on special occasions  , It is wise to pre-order them days in advance  .
