Los Baños Horticultural Society Flower Show 2016


Los Baños Horticultural Society  with special participation  of Department of Trade and Industry ( DTI Laguna ) will be having their annual show scheduled from April 1 to 10, 2016 at the Senior Social Garden within University of the Philippines –Los Baños premises . There will be several exciting exhibits featuring flowering annuals, orchids and ornamental plants will be featured .

There will also be a trade show in which buyers of plants and native handicrafts can buy items during the 10 day event.

There will be a minimal entrance fee at the show.


Panubli-on Heritage Trade Fair

Department of Trade and Industry , DTI Region 6 , Glorietta Mall presents to the public the Paubli-on Heritage Trade Fair , It is a 3-day trade show which showcase the different products, native delicacies , foods, handicrafts of Region 6 .

These include the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz , Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental .

There were 62 small scale to medium scale enterprises and cooperatives that are part of the trade fair. The region has 18 congressional districts , 16 cities , 117 municipalities , 4,650 barangays in the region .

Gejur Handicraft specializes in accessories, coconut shells and components, key chains, shells and toy or miniature tricycle and jeepneys.

One of the most sale-able items of the company are the miniature tricycles and miniature jeepneys made from coconut shells and recycled coconut boards . The miniature items is very popular  in Boracay and balikbayans .

Each item is being sold at about Php 650 retail BUT during the trade fair , the tricycles were being sold at a much cheaper price.

Flip Out- Global Pinoy Cuisine Challenge at the Sikat Pinoy National Food Fair

 The exhibition site  covers 3,878 square meters of food stuff presented by more than 200 local exhibitors from the country’s 16 regions.

Organized by the   Department of Trade and Industry ( DTI), PhilHealthBureau of Domestic Trade  focuses on pili nuts, seafood , herbal products, organic products, local delicacies , coffee and a whole of of interesting regional products.

PHLPost had a booth inside the trade fair and gave away interesting booklet of the 2014 first quarter issues . Aside from the regular stamps, postal money order, courier services , bayad center that they offer.

Flip Out -Global Filipino Cusine cook-off challenge

The great cooking challenge was organized by Petron Gasul  in partnership with Philhealth and brought to the public by Fujidenso, Delimondo, King Sue products, Aquabest ,Whirlpool , Bega , PAM, Snack Pack , BergHoff among others….

Los Baños Horticulture Society 2013 Summer Show

Los Baños Horticultural Society in partnership with University of the Philippines -Los Baños, Department of Trade and Industry , The Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD) holds their bi-annual horticulture show and trade fair  .

This year’s theme ” There is Beauty in Our Native Plants” . The focus of the show are the native plants  which are unappreciated and sometimes neglected in many parts of the country. Some of them are highly endangered and almost extinct.

The opening ceremony was held yesterday, March 14, 2013 at around past 4:00pm and were attended by Ms. Marina Catipon , vips, members of the society and affiliated plant and gardening societies across the country.


This is the most visited and important plant show south of Manila that any plant collector  ,  environment enthusiasts, students and photographers must never miss!

The main exhibit  was landscaped with dracena, philodendron, aglaonema , medinilla and iligan ferns accentuated by  fresh aquarium gold fishes from the personal collection of Mr. Vicente Chin Jr. ( Mr. Vic Chin Jr.).

He is a plant hobbyist, collector , propagator , landscaper and now breeder of fresh water fishes like gold fishes from different parts of Asia .

I had to commute early in the morning the following day ( March 15 ) from  Buendia, Pasay for about 2 hours arriving at the show site just before they opened. I was greeted by some traders and officers of the Los Baños Horticulture Society .

Dendrobium thyrsiflorum- exhibited by VS Orchids and Ornamental Plants

This orchid species if commonly called  Pine Cone-Like Raceme Dendrobium – In Thailand – Ueang mawn khai – In China Qui Hua Shi Hu.

Habitat and Range : Chinese Himalayas, Hainan China, Assam India, eastern Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam

Dendrobium thyrsiflorum Rchb.f 1875 SECTION Densiflora  is found in humid, mossy mixed and coniferous forests enjoys lots of light and air movement and has slender, ridged, rounded, club-shaped, yellowish apically stems carrying 5 to 8, persistent, smooth, flexible, dark green leaves that blooms in the spring on a pendant, 12″ [30 cm] long, densely several to many [30 to 70] fragrant flowered raceme that arise from near the apex of the cane and is best mounted on driftwood, on pots, mounted on living trees .

Range: This orchid species can be found from elevation of  800 meters to 2,100 meters  with semi shade. Water sparingly throughout  the winter months ( drying them)  and reduce the fertilizer until the initiation of new growth in the spring. The orchid species can reach 2 to 3 feet .

History :

The Los Baños Flower and Garden Show  is a much-awaited yearly event for plants hobbyists , gardeners and enthusiasts from the mid- 1970’s to early 1990’s .  The event is usually held in the 2nd week of October to coincide with the University of the Philippines- Los Baños ” Loyalty Day” . Then ,  There is another one held during the summer season to coincide with the graduation rites of the campus . Each time the show would feature a particular plant  or would revolve a theme .  Here,  you will find the latest , rarest breed of your favorite ornamental plants , trees, orchids  ,  flowering plants , garden accents as well as the  simplest to the most creative  garden landscapes.

Los Baños Horticulture Society

The garden shows was organized by the Los Baños Orchid Society from the early 1970’s to 2009. In 2009 due to the SEC registration guidelines,  The board decided to change the name to Los Baños Horticulture Society to avoid penalties and confusion among the visiting public , since majority of the members are into horticulture and not just purely growing orchids.

Los Baños Flower and Garden Show 2012

Flowering Plants , Exotic Flora and Rare Plants will be exhibited in the annual Los Baños  Flower and Garden Show 2012 t o be held from March 23 to April 1, 2012 at the Senior’s Social Garden within  the campus of the University of the Philippines in Los Baños,  Laguna.  This bi-annual event is being organized by the Los Baños Horticulture Society Inc. (LBHS) in cooperation with Department  of Trade and IndustryLaguna  and together with various commercial plant and garden suppliers.

The show is adopting a theme dubbed, “Gardening: A Lifestyle.” The event will showcase delightful and elegant arrangements . In most private home particularly in the provinces , there are still a lot of plant enthusiasts  which gardening has certainly been a part of the Filipino lifestyle .

Arranging and tending plants are both a relaxing and stimulating activity. It also makes vacant spaces functional and aesthetically beautiful and orderly.   Unfortunately most of the private  gardens  have are slowly loosing to development and lack of interest  among the present generation.  Fast phase lifestyles have led to people not to concentrate on gardening  and choosing the right plants that are suitable to the right environmental conditions.

Mr. Vicente  Chin,  Mr. Carlos Valeriano C. Lazaro, Ms. Angelita Ibarra of Gintong Talulot, Mrs. Mable Chua of  Flower Box,  Dr. Ben Vergara of Exotica,  Malvarosa Orchids of Dr. Hernando Perez  and Mr. Tony Pajaro are just a few of the leading industry landscape architects , plant propagators and plant breeders will also be on hand to present their landscape designs at the exhibit areas and also sell their  well-cultured flowering and foliage plants to visitors.

The  show will feature a series of free lectures to be given by some of the society’s  top  landscape designers. The show will also highlight their landscape exhibits and as well as the current trends and styles in landscaping.  Lectures  will be conducted  on March 24, 2012  to be conducted by Mr. Carlos Valeriano C. Lazaro  and  March 31, 2012  at 2:00 pm.

The show’s ribbon-cutting ceremony happens on March 22, with the new UPLB Chancellor Dr. Rex Victor O. Cruz as the guest of honor .  In addition to the usual commercial booths , landscape and individual plant competitions  ,there will also be section where native handicrafts, native kakanins ,  agricultural produce  and publications will also be available.

Manila FAME 55th edition

Design Week from March 11 to 17, 2012

Manila FAME was founded in 1983 by by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) through the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) and is one of the longest running trade shows in the Asia-Pacific.

Since its founding, the show has been featuring the latest creation and design trends in furniture and furnishings, holiday and gifts and fashion. Through the years, Manila FAME has been nurturing Philippine creative manufacturers and producers and continues to promote them in the global market.

It is the only event in the Philippines approved by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), a Paris-based association of trade fair organizers.

The fair is open to local and international buyers during the first 3 days where pre-registration is highly encourage while the last day is usually open for the public for a minimal entrance fee of Php 500.  Sketching and taking of pictures is highly discouraged in order to avoid copyright and intellectual property rights violation.
