10 Interesting Booths at the 36th Manila International Book Fair

Manila International Book Fair or more popularly known as MIBF is the Philippines  longest running international book fair and expo had open its doors to the general public .

Just like the previous events, there are a lot of books that are available to the general public from children’s book, literature, fiction, medical, religious , auto-biography , architecture, textbooks, to graphic novels, trivia and e-books.

The event started with a morning mass and ribbon cutting ceremony .

Well-known Chinoy book author ,comic illustrator and comedian Mr. Stanley Chi will be having a book signing autograph session this coming sunday -September 20 at around 4:00PM

9.) Abiva – Colorful , Comical , Fun and Exciting- I saw several students posing and taking photos at their booth . The company is one of the largest textbook publisher . Some of the children’s book are priced at Php 30.00

8.) DATA Science and Technology Corporation– It is one of the company that specializes in robotics and focuses on science and technology . I was invited last year in a press presentation conducted by DATA Science and Technology which is  one of the sponsors of the robotic Olympiad held in China .

7.) Magnavision-The booth sells a lot of educational tapes and instructional videos

6. ) Adarna Publishing- The booth showcased a carnival-like theme with balloons . The booth appeals to kids, teenagers and great bargain sale.

The book is very colorful and appeal to kids and teenagers- What Kids Should Know about Philippine Architecture– The handy book is being sold at Php90.00 at the booth.

4.) Viva Psicom Publishing Company – This is one of the more popular booth among kids, teenagers and young adults . The sales staff had fancy hats which attracts passers-by . They also got big sale , autograph signing opportunities and photo opportunity for their customers.

Some of the bargain books are selling 3 for Php 100 , Php 50 , Php 75 and Php 100  ideal for early Christmas giveaways . I got several books at bargain prices – Chopstick -Hopia Like It part 3 by Mr. Stanley Chi is selling for only Php 50.00 per book ! The booth also gave away interested Freebies item such as key chains and note pads.

Note: For those planning to visit the 36th Manila International Bookfair , Try to visit as early as possible to avoid the crowd queuing for lines and payment at the cashier . There is also a minimal entrance fees of Php 20 general public and Php 15 for librarians, student and senior citizens with valid ID’s . There are some exhibitors, publishers , bookstores which allotted complimentary tickets – Bookfair is until this sunday September 20, 2015

Nick Joaquin, National Artist of the Philippines for Literature. Nick Joaquin is considered the third most important Filipino writer after Jose Rizal and Claro M. Recto and is best known for his novels and short stories written in English.

because of the strong connection of the legendary writer with the school.The
legendary writer wrote the lyrics of the FEU Hymn and the biography of founder Dr.

Dr. Montinola said she pitched the idea to Nick Joaquin’s niece Ms.Joaquin Villegas after visiting a recent exhibit at the Ateneo De Manila University.

Aside from books there are also personal memorabilias that were given to the author by his friends.

Mr. Nick Joaquin started his literary career by contributing poems and essays to national magazines. He published his first poem in 1935 in The Tribune.

He joined the Philippines Free Press magazine in 1950 as proofreader. He soon became a staff writer, signing his work as Quijano de Manila. Then as the Free Press literary editor, he influenced the careers of young writers, most of whom have become icons of Philippine literature themselves.

He later edited the Asia-Philippine Leader magazine. And became editor in chief of the Philippine Weekly Graphic. He was publisher of the Mirror magazine when he died.

His short stories have won every major prize in the Philippines, including the Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature. In 1996 he was chosen Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for literature and journalism.

The tour participants enjoyed the quaint memorabilia room at the library dedicated to Mr. Nick Joaquin.

As of 2014, FEU diversified its facilities and its quality of education by having 8 institutes namely: IABF, IAS, IARFA, IE, IN, IL, and ITHM.
Tourism and Hospitality Management was formerly under the Institute of Accounts, business and Finance with the programs of BS Commerce major in Tourism, but in the year 2010, Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management was established due to the number of students enrolling to the said program.  BS Hotel and Restaurant Management and BS Tourism management was finally given its own distinction under its own institute that teaches Hospitality Management.
Far Eastern University, with its aim to give its students the best quality of education,a building  for the ITHM students was built in the year 2009, to provide the facilities where the students can have their proper practice for their program.  The building for ITHM students is called the Alfredo Reyes Hall, named after Alfredo Reyes, who was the former University Vice President.
The ARH boasts its Hospitality Management facilities like mock hotel, mock bar room, mock dining room, kitchens, and hotel lobby to supply the students’ needs in practicing their program before going outside the university to serve the corporate world.

Due to demand for Filipino culinary specialist for both local and international restaurants and hotel chains. The enrollment is increasing every year.

There were 5 teams composed of 3 members The amateur competition had three delectable categories – appetizer, main dish and dessert. Competitors started cooking at 10:00 AM.
