Commercial stalls and plant traders are the primary life blood of any trade shows. One can buy and purchase some orchids, plants, fertilizers, pots among others at the Flora Filipina 2019.

Grammatophyllum multiflorum variety citrinum was the eye candy at this booth. The orchid with flowers were initially selling for Php 6,500 then Php 4,500, towards the end of the show it was sold to a well-known orchid trader for Php 1,500 per orchid with flowers. The orchid trader is shipping the orchids to the United States.

Ten Shin Gardens from Taiwan is another popular booth at the Flora Filipina 2019.  The company had started an online promo which gives 10% discount on all their orchids to all those who pre-order. Towards the end of the expo, the company even lowered some of the orchids on sale ( much to the delight of the buyers).

Mr. Glanz Ang bred over 35 different kinds of rain lilies.  There is a growing demand for these flowering plants.

Mr. Glanz Ang from Cagayan de Oro City sells different kind of variegated  sansevieria, bromeliads and rain lilies.

Bougainvillea Extravaganza at Flora Filipina 2019

Bougainvilleas are flowering plants is a genus of thorny ornamental vines, bushes. The country is fortunate that we have a lot of old cultivar varieties and the flowering shrub was introduced during the Spanish colonial era.

There are several plant stalls which specializes on this flowering plants. Some of the sellers are from Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Rizal provinces.

Several varieties and cultivars had been bred for the past several decades not only in the country but as well as other ASEAN countries ( particularly Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia).

We went to this booth and the seller told us that they are lucky to have brisk sales. Their three bougainvillea ( bonsai ) were reserved by an unidentified buyer. The  buyer already made a down payment few minutes before we came.

The flowering  bougainvillea had a handsome price tag. This also have an interesting shape.

The flowering shrub is quite popular in several latin American countries, Florida and parts of tropical Asia. I have invited three other blogger friends, but they did not stayed long at the site.

There were about a dozen of so commercial and exhibit- The nice news is that the public will not shell out Php 50 and Php 30 entrance fees. Since this is a commercial trade fair and exhibit. Where almost anything on exhibit are for sale.

Our group was approached by a seller and told us that even the potted plants and accents are for sale.

Highlights of the Flora Filipina 2019 Opening

Flora Filipina 2019 which is a project by the Philippine Orchid Society in partnership with Quezon City government, Department of Tourism, Department of Agriculture with media partner Manila Bulletin had a grand opening held at the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ( Flower Garden) area within Quezon Memorial Circle.

The opening was capped with a ribbon cutting ceremony around past 4:00 pm. Lion dancers with drum beaters paving a post Chinese New Year vibe at the opening.

There were cultural performers dancing popular Filipino folk dances. International delegates, members, invited guests were serenaded with Filipino music.

Allied Botanical Corporation or simply called ABC presented a beautiful landscape exhibit using their popular flowering annuals, marigolds and sunflowers.

The landscape exhibits have several flowering gerberas, marigolds, aglaonemas, tropical foliages, Phalaenopsis hybrid orchids, Rhyncostylis gigantea, strap leaf vandas, Dendrobiums and BLC type hybrids.

This landscape exhibit showcases several variegated agaves, tillandsias and succulent plants. This landscape carefully used some upscale material from old wooden window panels, and utility poles among others.

Mrs. Evangeline ” Vangie” Go orchid landscape exhibit booth won several awards. The award also includes ” Best Orchid Landscape ” award.

The orchid landscape exhibit included different orchid species and hybrids. Among the gorgeous blooming  Dendrobium anosmum ( sanggumays), Vanda lamellata,   Vanda lamellata var. boxallii, yellow and reddish flowering cattleya hybrids, strap leaf vandas. oncidiums and Epidendrums hybrids.

Grammatophyllum multiflorum variety citrinum have hundreds of greenish yellow flowers that is a big head turner at the landscape exhibit area.

The accents included old capiz window panels, wooden doors and old ceramic vases.

The orchid landscape exhibit also use some old drift woods finished with bermuda grass and white pebbles.

This orchid landscape exhibit was executed by Ms. Rona Latorre use different kinds of strap leaf vandas, oncidiums, cattleyas, Phalaenopsis orchids, ferns and old logs. This won third place in the orchid landscape exhibit.

This landscape exhibit was executed by Mr. Rudy T. Mintarto, Mr.Bagus Asharnanto and Mr.Win. They used several cut-flower orchid varieties, wooden face mask, head gear and costumes from Indonesia.

Mr. Godofredo ” Fred” Salud is the person behind this award winning “Best Ornamental Landscape” exhibit booth. He is also the person behind the Solaire Resort and Casino gorgeous lobby landscape.

The plants included some Paphiopedilum haynaldianum with dozens of flowers, Dischidias, bromeliads,anthuriums, Alcantarea imperialis, Alcantarea odorata, Tillandsias , Dracenas, Begonias and Aglaonema hybrids.

For those who wish to visit the exhibit area, There is a minimal entrance fees of Php 50.00 for the general public and Php 30.00 for students, senior citizens and pwd’s with valid ID’s

Exhibit areas is open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Flora Filipina International Exposition is until March 5, 2019.

Daily Schedule of Lectures and Talks at Flora Filipina 2019

There will be daily lectures and talks from experts in the field of orchids, plants, cacti, ferns, flower arrangements and fertilization at the Flora Filipina 2019.

The event was organized by Philippine Orchid Society Inc. in partnership with Quezon City government, Quezon City Memorial Administration, Department of Agriculture, Department of Tourism and with media partner Manila Bulletin.

The daily lecture/ talk will start from February 27 to March 5, 2019. This is to pave way for the 3- day conference that the society is hosting.

Since the venue of the lecture and seminar is inside the exhibit area- There is a minimal entrance fees of Php 50 general public and Php 30 for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities with valid Id’s ( as mandated by law).

Flora Filipina 2019 Conference is one on the parallel event that the Philippine Orchid Society in partnership with Quezon City government, Quezon Memorial Circle management, Department of Tourism, Department of Agriculture with sponsorship from Del Monte, Philippines, Villar Sipag Foundation, Allied Botanical Corporation and Manila Bulletin as one of the media partners.

I have posted an article few months ago, with an old poster. There will also a commercial bazaar area, exhibition, conference and farm tours.

There will be a special opening on February 23, 2019 which is for members of the society, invited guests , foreign delegates and special media accredited invites.

This will be followed by a 3-day scientific conference with the theme “Achieving Global Competency in Floriculture” from February 24 to 26 at the Brentwood Suites,Brentwood Suites, #6 Dr. G. Garcia Street, Barangay Paligsahan, Quezon City 1003 Philippines.
