Largest Serving of Sauteed Jolly Mushrooms Record Attempt at the History Con 2016

Mushrooms have been part of the human diet and are known for their healing and nutritional attributes. Fly Ace Corporation which distributes Jolly Mushrooms in partnership with History Channel is all stage to set the largest serving of the dish will make use of more than 250 kilos of Jolly Mushrooms and will involve the country’s top coking contingent composed of youth participants from the brand’s long-running learning advocacy , Jolly University ( JU) , and the chef -students from the Center for Culinary Arts (CCA-Manila) . The cooking team will be led by one of the young chef entrepreneurs in the country , Chef Winston “ Wix” Luna of the Chefwix Catering Services .

The event started past 11:00am with students of CCA-Manila , Fly Ace Corporation employees, students volunteers from Jolly University partners like Far Eastern University , La Consolacion College and staffs weighting -in the mushrooms at the grounds of the World Trade Center.

The sauteed mushroom dish is selected for the world record attempt because of how easy it can be prepared and cooked , while showing how versatile mushrooms are as an ingredient.

The author was invited by some members of the Binondo Heritage Group or BGH and Mr. Wilson Flores -who posted the event at the FB page of the group ( close site) . I saw fellow social media friends like Mr. Nathaniel Uy , Mr. Jonel Uy  ( not related to each other) and Mr. Ceasar Cheng .

There are several activities which coincide with the event , lectures, Chinese calligraphy lessons, Chinese Painting exhibition, games, promos, Chinese cuisine coking demonstration , competition , traditional lantern exhibit, dragon and lion dance, Chinese dances, Lingnan style paintings , Chinese paper cutting , Chinese games , Speaking Basic Hokkien and Basic Mandarin and cultural activities .

The place is jam-packed with so many people from all walks of life . The criteria for judging is based on Product Output 30% , Leadership and Group Dynamics 20% , Presentation and Delivery 20% and results from the Jolly Boot Camp 30%.

The group got their inspiration from the Empanada de Kaliskis from Malolos City , Bulacan . This is an heirloom pastry which is flaky , deep fried , stuffed with meat.  It’s origin dates back in 1820 and the dish is still an all time favorite among people visiting the province. I have eaten this several times whenever i got a chance to visit Malolos.

The group ‘s had the ability to improvise and even innovate the dough adding Malunggay ( Moringa oleifera)  , Kesong Puti ( carabao white cheese ) , Bulacan longganisa ( Bulacan sausage) then using Jolly’s mix mushroom, garbanzos, water chestnuts and salted black beans .

Each of the team is required to submit a food bazaar dish recipe , using the different JOLLY Food line products. This enhances the students ‘s knowledge of the various Jolly products and its usage . This activity aims to develop their creativity in coming up with innovative recipes that are perfect for a start -up business .

As of 2014, FEU diversified its facilities and its quality of education by having 8 institutes namely: IABF, IAS, IARFA, IE, IN, IL, and ITHM.
Tourism and Hospitality Management was formerly under the Institute of Accounts, business and Finance with the programs of BS Commerce major in Tourism, but in the year 2010, Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management was established due to the number of students enrolling to the said program.  BS Hotel and Restaurant Management and BS Tourism management was finally given its own distinction under its own institute that teaches Hospitality Management.
Far Eastern University, with its aim to give its students the best quality of education,a building  for the ITHM students was built in the year 2009, to provide the facilities where the students can have their proper practice for their program.  The building for ITHM students is called the Alfredo Reyes Hall, named after Alfredo Reyes, who was the former University Vice President.
The ARH boasts its Hospitality Management facilities like mock hotel, mock bar room, mock dining room, kitchens, and hotel lobby to supply the students’ needs in practicing their program before going outside the university to serve the corporate world.

Due to demand for Filipino culinary specialist for both local and international restaurants and hotel chains. The enrollment is increasing every year.

There were 5 teams composed of 3 members The amateur competition had three delectable categories – appetizer, main dish and dessert. Competitors started cooking at 10:00 AM.
