10 Important Events at Quezon City’s 80th Anniversary

Quezon City government in partnership with dozens of cause -oriented groups, advocacy group, volunteer organizations, business establishments started the kick-off celebrations on October 12 and 13 at the Quezon Memorial Circle.

The event was dubbed Pista sa Kyusi which had a two day event celebration.

Thousands of employees, students, cause oriented groups, bloggers, vloggers and the general public had a rare chance to attend some events, concerts, trade fair, cook-off challenge, art event, sports event, bureau of fire special service section and food fair held within the famed landmark.

10.) Quezon City hall grand parade- A grand parade which started within Quezon city hall ground and wereheld around past 7:30 am and moved to Liwasang Aurora at the middle of the Quezon Memorial Circle.

9.) Mobile Library exhibit- There were 3 mobile library which is on constant on the move within many parts of the city.

The mobile library provide several valuable services like reading literacy awareness, story telling, puppetryshocas among children and students of the city.

8. Free QCX entrance – students, heritage advocates, bloggers, ordinary people and even foreign tourist were treated to a whole day of FREE entrance at the QCX museum. There are a lot of see and experience at the museum.

7. ) Trade Fair- There were over 80 booths which showcases different products, native crafts, organic material, advocacy group, health and wellness, photography group, art association and food.

6.) Food Fest – There were several food events held at the site. We were fortunate to witness the barbecue cook-off challenge from 6 barangays within the city.

There were two representatives from the barangay. One of the challenge includes pork barbecue cooked-off.

5.) Art and Drawing Sessions- several well-known artists showcase their talents in painting and giving free art lessons. There were also art competition among young and budding artist of the city.

4.) Plant Stalls- There are several plant stalls located within the park. One can choose from different kinds of plants, ornamental flowering plants, herbs, orchids , pots among others.

3.) Zumba and Dance Sessions- The group provides free zumba and dance session. One can just join -in with the group.

1.) Garden of Joy and Other Landmarks- This is an important landmark for plant, orchid and horticulture lovers.  This used to be called Flower Garden or Hardin ng mga Bulaklak and now called Garden of Joy.

We hope that the orchids, ferns, bromeliads and other plants mounted on the trees within the garden will be properly nurtured taken cared off. Since a lot of the plants were donated by members of plant organization.

7.) Vanda lamellata cultivar variety debutante– This was spotted in one of the exhibit booth. The variety had bigger flowers and can be use for breeding hybrids.

8.) Grammatophyllum measuresianum – This is one of our native orchid species blooming during this time of the year. The orchid species was described in 1889.

9.) Best Foreign SpeciesDendrobium capituliforum is an orchid species found in New Guinea these occur in coastal areas and in some parts of Solomon Islands.

10 .) Phalaenopsis hieroglyphicaThis orchid species was spotted in one of the commercial stall area. A rich orchid collector reportedly bought almost the entire stock.  Another plant with flowers had been spotted within the exhibit area and won a blue ribbon.

11.) Vanda Kultana Fragrance X Vanda luzonica – This orchid hybrid won second prize. This is more free flowering in the lowlands compared its parents.

12.) Ascocentrum aurantiacum subspecies philippinense– This was recently reclassified under genus Vanda. This is a lovely small flowering orchid species with bright yellow or orange flowers.

The show is until March 5, 2019 and covered three exhibition sites, Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ( HB Garden / Flower Garden), Runnex Elevated Garden ( Bonsai and Natural Stone exhibit ) and Walkway Area facing East Avenue ( Bougainvillea and Commercial stalls)

There is a minimal entrance fees of Php 50 for the general public and Php 30 for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities ( with Id’s)

 

 

 

 

 

Opening Highlights of the 72nd Mid-Year Philippine Orchid Society’s Show

Philippine Orchid Society in partnership with Quezon City government, Quezon City memorial circle administration and with sponsors Del Monte, Philippines, Manila Bulletin and Villar Sipag Foundation opened the 72nd mid-year show with stunning landscape exhibits.

Fortune Catering Services was the official caterer of the event. The meal that the catering had provided was already an early evening meal.

The early evening meal meal consists of rice, pork kaldereta, lumpiang shanghai, pancit canton, mix fruits salad with pili nuts and desserts.

The show is until September 10, 2018 and there will be daily lectures and talks starting tomorrow. There are also about 60 stalls with different kinds of orchids, plants, plastic  pots, fertilizers and other items for sale.

There is a minimal entrance fees of Php 30 for the general public and Php 20.00 for students, senior citizens and pwd with valid Id’s.

Flora Filipina 2019 International Show

Flora Filipina 2019 is an international gardening event organized by the Philippine Orchid Society in close partnership with Quezon Memorial Circle administration, Quezon City government, Department of Tourism, Department of Agriculture, Villar Sipag and other affiliated plant societies.

Other partner organization also includes Del Monte, Philippines and Manila Bulletin.

The first one was staged at the historic San Ignacio Church ruins and clam shell pavilion within Intramuros in 2006, followed by 2009 within Quezon Cityhall sunken lagoon, then at Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ( HB Flower Garden ) in 2012 and 2015.

This will be the 5th time that Flora Filipina will be held from February 22 to March 5, 2019. 2019 theme is ” Discover the Philippine Greening Economy

Highlights of the 2019 Flora Filipina Exposition

1.) Trade Bazaar– 100 to 120 trade bazaar stalls by plant sellers and growers from different parts of the country.

2.) Landscape Exhibition ( orchids, ornamental plants, cacti and succulents, bonsai, ikebana-ikenobo, freestyle flower arrangement, urban vertical garden, herbs and flowering annuals on display

3.) Individual Plant and Orchid competition – the public can have a chance to see the award winning plants and orchids.

4.) Horticultural Farm and Heritage tours– there will be some organized tours within Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

5.) International Conference– local and international guest speakers in different field of expertise will be there to share their experiences and present their papers.

6.) Tourism – There are between 10,000 to 15,000 visitors expected to come and visit 5th International Flora Filipina 2019 exposition in Quezon City.

7.) Daily Lectures and Talks– There will be some daily lectures and seminars to be conducted at the show site.

Note: Based on the 2015 Flora Filipina Exposition- There was a minimal entrance fees of  Php 50 general public and Php 30 for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities.

Schedule of Daily Lectures at the 71st Mid-Year Philippine Orchid Society Show

The Philippine Orchid Society in partnership with Quezon Memorial Circle and Quezon City government will be having their 71st Mid-Year Orchid and Garden Show at the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak within Quezon Memorial Circle, Quezon City.

Starting September 2, 2017 There will be daily afternoon lectures, talks and hands-on seminar with wide range from basic flower arrangements, cactus, cattleya, vanda, fertilization techniques , urban gardening, table flower arrangements and fruit tree container gardening.

There will be landscape , individual orchid competition and trade fairs . There will be a minimal entrance fees of Php 30 general public and Php 20.00 or students and senior citizens with valid Id’s.
