A Tour of Cedarhills Garden and Organic Herb Center along Mother Ignacia, Quezon City

#57 Mother Ignacia Street , Quezon City -Philippines

Cedarhills Garden and Organic Center

I always pass along Mother Ignacia street whenever we are going to Manila area .  Cedarhills Garden and Organic Center is near Saint Mary College and major television networks . It was open to the public in 2013 to cater to the gardening public and due to the impending closure of then Manila Seedling Bank Foundation  . The area occupies an area of about 1,500 square -meters .

Hillside Cafe and Juice Bar

Hillside Cafe and Restaurant – This restaurant serves pasta, sandwiches , juices and cakes .

The center had three other businesses  which complemented each other like Obin’s Garden ( ornamental and indoor plants ) and a garden supply store.

Waling- Flowers from Davao

Waling- flowers from Davao  ( Waling-waling seedlings, tillandsias ,cut flowers , goat milk’s soap , fresh cut flowers and Malagos chocolate ) . They also got a cold storage area for their cut-flowers and cut foliage supplies .  The selection of cut flowers and cut foliage is not that extensive compared to Dangwa in Sampaloc , Manila.

For those living in northern Metro Manila like Quezon City , Fairview, Lagro and Scout area. It is more convenient to buy them at the center rather than braving the traffic and lost time.

venus flytrap being sold at Php 600 per pot

For those looking for rare and unusual plant like venus flytrap, pitcher plant ,  tillandsias and waling-walings ( Euanthe sanderiana) . The place is also good to look for these plants.

 ashitaba

The Real ashitaba and Commercial ashitaba

This is the real Ashitaba herbs  ( Angelica keiskei )  came from Okinawa , Japan .Nonetheless, modest conditions for cultivation and fast rate of growth, with optimal temperatures ranging between 19 -30 degrees Celsius . As far as the author is concern, There are few plant nurseries in the Philippines that grow this plant successfully , The other one is the EDSA Garden House , herbal farms in Tagaytay and Baguio area.

Gynura which is cheaper compared to the real ashitaba . Ashitaba herbs cannot grow well in Metro Manila and it is a little bit more expensive compared to gynura because it is not easily propagated and it requires a cooler day and night temperatures .  I think it was  commercial people and propagators who thought that it was ashitaba and people sometimes believe them. It is useless to argue to people unless they have done proper research and have tried propagating the real ashitaba at their own backyard.

Gyunura procumbens

The one which is popularly grown and being sold at the local market is Gynura  procumbens or commonly called Longevity Spinach, Leaves of Gods or  Sabuñgai Gynura procumbens has been used as “FOLK MEDICINE” for hundreds of years. This herb has been found to be an extremely alkalizing and miraculous antiviral, anti-inflammatory edible plant. People’s Village within Tiendesitas

People’s Village is found within Tiendesitas, this is a  commercial property which sits on a 30,000 square meter area within Frontera Verde, which houses 12 Maranao architecture-inspired pavilions called “villages.” Indigenous materials used in creative ways adorn these villages using chemically-treated cogon grass for roof, old kalesa wheels into chandelier frames to light the restrooms, and duyans (hammock) scattered around to allow shortbreaks amidst frenzied shopping activities. The result is a stylized and unique Filipino architecture. The design of the complex also gives attention to the needs of the disabled and the elderly. The commercial section boast of over 40 traders from different parts of the country and even Asia.
