Consultation Meeting by the Makati Poblacion Heritage Conservation Society

  Makati Poblacion Heritage Conservation Project (MPHCP)  together with Makati City Hall officials and the Museum and Cultural Affairs Office ( MICAO) held a consultation meeting at the historic Museo ng Makati – a city museum opened sometime in 1993 .

Despite that the museum was opened about 24 years ago. Few people outside Makati knew that this was a museum.

The museum had some bas relief wood carving at the ground floor showcasing the historical facet of the city .  The museum still looks new despite the age .

For aspiring architect and students of fine arts , a visit to this local museum is a MUST for those who wanted to know the early history of Makati.

The second floor had been converted into a function area for the meeting .  If the plans goes well, there will be at least 2 more old ancestral houses , local handicraft , old church will be part of the historical walking tour . There are also local kakanins and food that Makati residents can boast off.

The author only took part on the last part of the consultation process , giving some output and some ideas. In reality, this project will take some more time before this project will come to be realized.

Around past 5:00 pm  , the meeting was adorned and a ceremonial group photo was held as part of the documentation process.  A simple late afternoon snacks  which consists of egg sandwich , baked macaroni  and ice tea was served to all the participants of the consultation meeting.

2nd Makati Food and Heritage Festival Features World Best Cuisines

The 2nd Makati Food and Heritage Festival is hosted by the city of Makati through  Museum and Cultural Affairs (MCAO), Greenbelt Management , Ayala Center, Filipino Heritage Festival , Embassy of Germany, Embassy of Indonesia, Royal Thai Embassy, Consulate of Portugal, Alba Restaurante Español, Brankinho, Italfood, Kaya Korean Restaurant, MGourmet Deliteca, German Club, Chua’s, Bailon’s, Casa Armas and Citrus Zone. among others .

Mayor Abigail Binay said the three-day food festival will be open on the said dates from 11:00am to 2:00pm, and then reopen from 4:30pm to 9:00pm. She said cooking demonstrations led by renowned chefs will also be held at the venue, along with free food tasting.

At 3pm, 10 admired celebrity chefs will be featured in “Fiesta de Paellas”, a tribute to Don Alba who introduced Paella to the country and endeared himself to the community by sharing his culinary expertise.

There were over 2 dozens booths selling different local , regional cuisines.

Celebrity chefs who will be featured include Chefs BJ Bidar, Day Salonga, Mon Urbano, Dedet dela Fuente, Erling Rune, Him Uy de Baron, Isaiah Ortega, Jaja Andal, Menoy Gimenez, Miguel de Alba and Timothy Decker Gokioco.

Among the cuisines that will be served during the three-day food festival are Nuernberger with sanerkrant in a bun and Frikadellen with potato salad of German Club (German); Chickpea salad with octopus and codfish, Pasteis de Nata and Pasteis de Queijo of Belinyas Pasteis de Nata (Portugal); Paella, Lengua with rice and Callos with rice of Alba (Spain).

Dak Bulgogi, Kalbi Jim, Bulgogi and Dweaji Bulgogi of Kaya Korean Restaurant Rice Toppings (Korea); Montaditos (Butifarra, Butifarra Choricera, Pork Belly, Chicken Brochette and Bacalao a la Vizcaina) of MGourmet Deliteca (Spain); Pad Thai of Royal Thai Embassy; and Beef Rendang, Nasi Goreng and Soto Betawi of Indonesian Embassy.

There will also be performances like Pendet Dance, a traditional Indonesian dance that will be performed by Ms. Viga Putri Harmulasari from the Indonesian Embassy, and Flamenco Dance which will be performed by staff from Alba Restaurante Español.

Chef Nancy Reyes Lumen

There will be an “Adobo Cooking Contest” at Makati City Hall Quadrangle to be conducted by the “Adobo Queen of the Philippines”, Chef Nancy Reyes Lumen.

It is an Inter-barangay Adobo Cooking Contest in cooperation with the Makati Education & Cultural Kagawads Association (MECKA) headed by Chairman of Barangay Pinagkaisahan Fernando Bolo, and Liga ng mga Barangay headed by Councilor Armand Padilla. Eighteen barangays of Makati will participate in the contest, including Forbes Park, Magallanes, Bangkal, San Isidro, Pio del Pilar, Sta. Cruz, Poblacion, Tejeros, and Carmona.

Other participants include Pinagkaisahan, Pitogo, Guadalupe Nuevo, Pembo, Rizal, East Rembo, Cembo, Guadalupe Viejo, and West Rembo.

Prizes for the contest are as follows: First Prize-P30,000; Second Prize-P20,000; and Third Prize-P10,000. Chefs Erling Rune, Z Leila Kusinera and Chris Urbano will serve as the judges for the said cooking contest. Give-aways will also be given to early birds, courtesy of sponsors. It will be hosted by Rendon Araneta.

Australian Chef Chris Urbano will be demonstrating his version of Australian adobo during the tabulation of scores of the participants.

At 5pm on the same day, there will be a cooking demonstration of a Spanish cuisine at Greenbelt 3 Park to be led by Chef Juan Manuel Montel.

Unlike other food festivals, It is open to the public and a visit at the event will surely satisfy everyone’s culinary appetite .

Kasuotang Pilipino Fashion Show

The city government of Makati through its Museum and Cultural Affairs Office (MCAO) will be staging this year’s Kasuotang Pilipino fashion show on September 23 at 6:00pm at the Glorietta 2 Activity Center.
Mayor Abby Binay expressed full support for the said event, which has become an annual event showcasing the creations of local designers to promote Filipino fashion representing the islands of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. “We fully support the event as it offers an opportunity for the people, especially the youth, to have a better appreciation of Filipino fashion that denotes our rich cultural heritage.
At the same time, it serves as a venue for Makati-based fashion designers to share their ingenuity and distinctive style and receive the recognition they deserve,” Binay said. Meanwhile, MCAO head May Santillana in a statement said that it has become a tradition in the city to stage the event in line with the nationwide celebration of “Linggo ng Kasuotang Pilipino”. “The staging of Kasuotang Pilipino has become a much-anticipated event in Makati every September.

The fashion show will  features the beautiful creations of talented Makati-based designers worn and modeled by city officials, senior citizens, and friends from the international community and the private sector,” Santillana said. Kasuotang Pilipino 2016 will showcase the creations of 14 designers, all Makati-based. They are Therese Andaya, Albert Andrada, Niño Angeles, Ronaldo Arnaldo, Joel Bautista, Janet Castro, Noel Crisostomo, Frankie de Leon, Luis delos Santos, Albert Figueras, Jinggo Inoncillo, Kaye Morales, Raymund Saul, and Val Taguba.
For Luzon, the creations will be modelled by wives of diplomats, namely, Eloisa Klecheski, wife of the deputy chief of mission, United States Embassy; Anjana Hasper, wife of the charge d’affaires, German Embassy; Souddavone Khaykhampithoune, wife of the ambassador, Embassy of Laos; Monthip Upatising, wife of the ambassador, Royal Thai Embassy, Sylvia Tay-Van Remoortele, wife of the ambassador, Royal Belgian Embassy; Dr. Kieu Phung, wife of the ambassador, Royal Danish Embassy; and Wang Qi Jessen, wife of the ambassador, European Union Embassy.
