Chinese lauriat dishes at Cocina sa Lido, Mindanao Avenue

Cocina sa Lido -Mindanao Avenue branch is near Project 8 , Tandang Sora , Congressional Avenue , Visayas Avenue and within few kilometers away from Novaliches, Quezon City.

The original restaurant is located within Binondo , Chinatown and was named after their Chinese chef- Lido who specialized on Filipino- Chinese dishes – With more than 80 years of dining tradition.  A visit to any of their branches is a MUST for any foodies.

Another urban story, that one of the best known dishes of the restaurant is Lido soup, hence the name.  Must try is their breakfast value meals, congee and coffee too.

There are over 14 branches located within Metro Manila and adjacent areas. Cocina sa Lido takes pride on the old- style traditional wood fired method of cooking pork.

Their pugon style pork asado , drunken lechon macao, beef with brocoli and mushroom , fried rice,  lomi and Manchurian fried chicken wings are some of the dishes to crave for.

The marination of pork asado and their dunken lechon macao took a long time. The smoky flavor of the pork asado permeates into the meat. Adding chili sauce or tomato ketchup further enhances its spiciness. Four Season Shake is another MUST TRY.

Shrimp Foo-Yong is Highly Recommended dish. It had a generous mixture of shrimps, vegetables, scrambled eggs and sauce.

One can choose from their timeless favorite like SET A, SET B and Set C classics- These starts at Php 2,399.00 and good for sharing between 3 to 5 people.

The restaurant had a sitting capacity of between 80 to 95 people at any given time, However on special occasions and event. The restaurant can be pre-booked in advance.

There is also a weekly press conference held at the second floor.

It was several months ago (around December 2013) , When i noticed  some plant stalls that have sprung-up along Mindanao Avenue near the Barangay Talipapa, Novaliches -Quezon City .

The area used to be a vacant lot being rented out to a trucking company  . I noticed  the beehive of activities started late December 2013 and early January 2014 when i saw some trucks load of plants and gardening materials that were busy unloading their stuffs.

When i visited the old Manila Seedling Bank Foundation last December 2013.   Some tenants told me that they they are looking for a place and they are still in negotiation with the lot owner in Mindanao Avenue , where they can relocate their plant and garden stalls.

Mang Victor is one of the plant stall tenants in Greenhouse # 3  within Manila Seedling Bank compound . He specializes on native plants, orchids and ornamental plants.

I saw Ms. Vangie Go at her newly re-opened store within the center.  The selling area is smaller than what she used to have at the Manila Seedling Bank Foundation. She is still renovating her new place .

The big move happened on the first week of January 2014 when almost all of the tenants were forced to find a place for their plants and gardening supplies . Each plant stall is allotted around 50 to 70 square meters . It is a whole lot less space compared to what they have when they are still at the Manila Seedling Bank compound.

 They are now in the process of making it to a community . Each stall specializes in a particular plants or products .

The combined area is around 3,600 square meters with around 30 stalls owners . Most of them are from Greenhouse #3 in Manila Seedling Bank hence they decided to include it in the signage.

Note: Mindanao Avenue Garden Center is also called ” Garden City ” by some of the tenants .  The 200 plus tenants were relocated in  different garden centers like  Farmers Center, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon Memorial Circle and Mindanao Avenue with the largest number of stall holders.

A collector and an active member of various horticultural organization , Mrs. Ime Lopez owner of this wonderful resort style with sunflower as a theme , said that seeing her collection of sunflowers make her relaxed.

According to her ,  part of the family compound is rented out to warehouse operators, while her family occasionally used the area for parties and family gatherings. This resort style compound is located in Darlucio street coner Mindanao Avenue near the Rolling Hills Resort in Valenzuela City.

Mrs. Lopez  said that  sunflower had a lot of  meaning in her life . Much of the meaning of sunflowers stems from its namesake, the sun itself. Wild sunflowers are often photographed with their tall stalks and bright petals stretched towards the sun. This unique behavior, known as phototropism, is a motif that has appeared in many ancient myths and is viewed as a symbol of loyalty and constancy. Their physical resemblance to the sun has also influenced their meanings. The sunflower’s petals have been likened to bright yellow rays of sunshine, which evoke feelings of warmth and happiness. In addition, the sunflower is often associated with adoration and longevity.

For a flower which reflects so many of the sun’s positive characteristics, it is little surprise that people enjoy basking in the sunflower’s warming glow.
