The 86 Miss Universe contestants compete in swimsuit and evening gown before a panel of preliminary judges. The event takes place from Crocus City Hall,  Moscow, Russia and is hosted by Miss Universe 2012, Olivia Culpo and comedian Nick Teplitz.

Mr. Alfredo Barraza

  The gown was made by Colombian fashion designer Mr. Alfredo Barraza.  Mr. Barraza is also the designer of Ms. Miriam Quiambao’s national costume and several Miss Universe-Philippines bet.  However, It is not all glitz and glamor for the Colombian designer.  Philippine pageant gurus and fashion experts agree that some of his fashion styles are tacky and not suited for international fashion sense.   This endless debates are the topic in various blogs and threads .

Ms. Stella Marquez de Araneta  ( Miss Colombia 1959, Miss Universe 1960 semi-finalist ,Miss International 1960  , current Binibining Pilipinas chairperson) and Mr. Alfredo Barraza are bosom friends from long time ago.

The national costume of Miss Philippines  was executed by Mr. Alfredo Barraza from 1999 to 2013 except for 2012 ( done by Mr. Pitoy Moreno).

Majority  of the screaming fans were rooting for hometown bet  Miss Russia , While strong public support  and fans were cheering very loud for Miss Mexico , Miss Curacao, Miss Malaysia, Miss Myanmar , Miss Ukraine ,  Miss Venezuela , Miss Colombia , Miss Panama, Miss Thailand, Miss Indonesia , Miss Vietnam, Miss England, Miss USA  and Miss Philippines.

Based on the uploaded videos , social networking sites and pageant threads  Ms. Philippines performance during the swimsuit and evening gown is highly commendable and almost assured of a spot in the finals .
