United Nation Women & Quezon City Light the Sky to kick-off Campaign for Safe Cities for Women

There were at least a thousand and more supporters of women’s safety in the streets highlighted at the Quezon City sky as the SAFE Cities Programme of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women or UN Women and the Quezon City government kicks off the campaign activities in celebration of National Women’s Month .

The campaign begins with ” Lightning the Way to Safe Cities ” which started around past 4:00pm at the QCX  museum audio-visual room within Quezon Memorial Circle to celebrate the eve of International Women’s Day , commemorated globally every 8th of March .

The Safe Cities Quezon City programme hold its back to back event with a press conference , media launching , photo exhibit of results from ” How Safe are Women in our City Street ? A Baseline Study on Street Harassment and Sexual Violence Against Women and Girls in Public Spaces “.

There are different NGO , cause oriented groups , women’s group and student volunteers at the event making them memorable .

After the short press conference , question and answer portion , participants were led into the gallery were different photos from known photo artists were exhibited .

The ribbon cutting ceremony was led by UN Women Ms. Katerine Belen, Ms.. Glaiza de Castro and  Barangay Captain of Bagong Silangan in Quezon City .

At around past 6:00pm , there was a FREE concert at Aurora Open Space where Ms. Cookie Chua and her group performed much to the delight for the crowd.

At around past 7:00pm several hundreds of sky lantern were lighted and released into the sky. It capped the memorable celebration of UN -women’s day and Women’s month at the Quezon Memorial Circle.
