The Philippine Orchid Society in cooperation with Quezon Cityhall, Quezon Memorial Circle administration, Department of Tourism , Department of Agriculture   with sponsorship from Del Monte- Philippines, Pioneer Epoxy , Allied Botanical Corporation had opened the 70th annual orchid and garden show at the Flower Garden ( Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ) within Quezon Memorial Circle.

Allied Botanical Corporation booth is one of the most photographed exhibit at the 70th annual orchid and garden show . It showcase most of the company products such as flowering annuals and vegetables . The company also won 2nd place in ornamental plant landscape competition.

Senator Cynthia A Villar is one of the guests of honor at the show . She said ” Greeting , First of All , Thanks you very much to the Philippine Orchid Society for inviting me once again to attend this yearly event . I consider myself na suki na dito sa taunang orchid and garden show. and as before , I am very happy to be here with all of you once again.

Ms. Miles Hilario

Ms. Miles Hilario won the first place in freestyle flower arrangement with the emphasis on orchid flowers. She is a member of Floral Designer’s Circle of the Philippines .

Architect Bimbo Vergara won 3rd place in the ornamental plant landscaping competition . He also took home the ” Best Ornamental Plant ” of the 70th annual orchid and garden show .

Newly elected officers were inducted by Senator Cynthia Villar and took their oath of office . They have a tenure from 2016 to 2017 when the next Philippine Orchid Society elections will take place.

Fortune Catering Services

Fortune Catering Services was the official caterer of the event. They started to cater various events and functions of plant societies since last year . The lechon was sponsored by Philippine Bonsai Society . The meal that the catering had provided was already an early evening meal.

For those who wanted to avail of their catering services , the minimum is 55 people at Php 300 per head or Php 16,500. They are based in Makati .

National Bonsai Competition and Exhibition 2015

Quezon City , Philippines

The Philippine Bonsai Society Inc. the premiere bonsai organization which was established in 1973 together with Quezon Memorial Circle , Quezon City government is mounting an exhibit , lecture and trade show that will start from May 13 to 20, 2015. There will be a national competition to be held among bonsai growers from different parts of the country . There will be several international guest which included top bonsai growers and sensei from Taiwan and local bonsai associations. Ms. Vangie Go ( President of the Philippine Orchid Society ) will also be having a lecture scheduled on May 16, 2015.

The exhibit and trade show will be held within the Hardin ng mga Halaman within Quezon Memorial Circle.

Orchid Landscape Winners

3rd Place Ms. Evangeline B. ” Vangie ” Go

The landscape used old capiz window panels and driftwoods as part of the landscape . White cattleyas, ferns , Dendrobium spectabile from Papua New Guinea , Solomon islands, Irian Jaya of Indonesia  , Dendrobium sanderae and Grammatophyllum multiflorum variety citrinum  from the Philippines , mutant dracena and ferns added different shades of  green and yellow tones to the landscape.

2nd Place- Purificacion Orchids and Ornamental Farm

This orchid landscape used Phalaenopsis orchid hybrids , Oncidium hybrids , Cattleya hybrids, Paphiopedilum hybrids  , Epidendrum hybrids . Fixtures includes wooden door , steel  frame, adobe stones, pebbles ,  old soft drink bottles.

1st Place -Susan and Manuel Lee

The orchid landscape had Dendrobium hybrids, Cattleya hybrids , Phalaenopsis hybrids, Vanda hybrids , Paphiopedilum hybrids with some native orchid species like Dendrobium uniflorum, Dendrobium sanderae , Grammatophyllum multiflorum variety citrinum , Trichoglottis rosea, Trichoglottis latisepala , native asplenium .

Ornamental Landscape Winners

3rd Place-Allied Botanical Corporation

Allied Botanical Corporation is one of the major seeds, fertilizers and fruit suppliers in the country .  The landscape exhibit showcases vegetable and fruit produce like water melon, gourd , red bell peppers, tomatoes , lettuce , herbs ,  sunflowers, celosia ( cockcomb )  , petunia , sorghum, marigold flowers among others.  ( together in the photo: Ms. Dhory Fadriquela )

2nd Place : Professor Juan ” Johnny ” Lim

Professor Johnny Lim won several coveted awards for his bonsai trees .

1st Place: Mr. Fred Salud , Mr. Tata Montilla and ” Late” Atty. Pepito Mercado

The landscape exhibit was created by Mr. Fred Salud together with Mr. Tata Montilla using the collection of cactus and succulents of the late  Atty. Pepito Mercado who died just last January 2015. This is some sort of a tribute exhibit. Surprisingly, this landscape exhibit won the grand prize for the ” Best Ornamental Landscape Exhibit ” and ” ” Best Ornamental Plant in the Show “
