Launching of Nissan GT Academy Season 2 in the Philippines

Nissan Philippines Inc. ( NPI.) once again brings innovation that excited to the Philippine motorsports scene as formally launches the second season of the Nissan GT Academy -Philippines. The launch was held a few hours ago at the SM Mall of Asia-Atrium.

A virtual-to-reality racing competition, the Nissan GT Academy gives aspiring race cars drivers a chance to fulfill their dream of participating in a professional international race.

First launched locally in March 2015, the Nissan GT Academy saw over 13,000 aspiring racers participate in over 20 live events held in key cities in the country within a four month period. Twenty players with the best race time in the game then advanced to compete in the National Finals, where they were subjected to physical, driving, media, and virtual challenges to determine the top six contenders.

Lucas Ordoñez, winner of the inaugural 2008 Nissan Playstation GT academy in Europe, graced the opening of the event, encouraging participants to grab the Nissan GT Academy Season 2 as an opportunity to make their race-car dreams come true.

“Back then, I was just studying for my MBA. When I saw an ad for a new competition called ‘GT Academy’, I knew I had to join and take this shot to be the racing driver I dreamed to be,” said Ordoñez who also completed a podium finish in the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hours.

“Now, here I am racing on every possible tournament. It felt great to have taken that move. I hope Filipinos will grab this opportunity too,” he added.

“The Nissan GT Academy is Nissan’s way of democratizing motorsports, to make it more accessible to the general public,” said SJ Huh, NPI General Manager for Marketing. “By doing this, we help fast-track the dreams of more potential Filipino racers to reach the international racing arena.”

Nissan Philippines Set To Join in New Season of Nissan GT Academy

Nissan Philippines Inc. ( NPI ) confirmed its participation in the upcoming Nissan GT Academy 2016 , which will be launched later this year. This was announced during an exclusive screening of the Nissan reality show , produced by NPI’s broadcast partner ABS-CBN channel 2 .

 From the 20 finalists, Mr. Luis Cachero , Mr. Rafael Lesaguis ,Mr. Terence Lallave, Mr. Jose ” Joward ” Policarpio , Mr. Joel Agojo and Mr. Daryl Brady were selected to join the Race Camp at the Silverstone Racing Circuit in the United Kingdom in August 2015 .

The Philippine Top 6 then underwent a 9-day competition against finalists from Japan , Thailand , India and Indonesia to determine one winner for the Nissan GT Academy Asia leg. Mr. Policarpio bested the rest of the finalists in a qualifying race and was named the first Nissan GT Academy Asia- Champion .

It was first launched in Japan in 2010, the new Nissan Juke immediately captured the attention of the global automotive scene because of it’s fun, bold design and exciting driving performance . In March 2014 , the minor change Nissan Juke was unveiled in the Geneva International Motor Show , bringing an even more refreshed take on the eye-catching vehicle . The minor change model was then brought into Southeast Asia  having first introduced in Thailand in February 2015 and since then , it has been making its mark in the region.

Exciting Drive

The new Nissan Juke will be available in the HR16DE 1.6 DOHC gasoline engine variant , coupled with the new generation Xtronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) . Under this powertrain combination, the new Nissan Juke will delivers a smooth yet exciting drive supported by engine power of 116PS with 154Nm of torque.

The new Nissan Juke will be available as a 4×2 variant with an SRP of Php 980,000. It comes in RED Alert, Solar Yellow, Pearl White and Black Obsidian. Expected start of sales will be sometime January 2016. So try to visit your nearest Nissan Dealers for Orders.
