Identify the Postcard by Ortigas Library Winners

Ortigas Library Foundation conducted an online contest a couple of months ago which generated a lot of buzz among heritage, postcard, stamp and memorabilia collector at their FB page between August 25 to August 26, 2020 with the first 30 persons who correctly identify the postcards during the time frame are eligible to win.

Identify the Postcards

I got a private message from Mr. Carlos Iñigo Roxas ( postcard, stamp collector) about the online contest. Internet was intermittent, it took us almost 10 hours before we were able to send the reply via the Ortigas Library FB site.

Identify the 3 American era postcard which includes 1. Insular Ice Plant, 2.) Road of Antiquity Colon street view of old Cebu and 3.) Fort Malabang in Mindanao.

Personally got two of the three postcards in my private collection. I later found out that Mr. Carlos Iñigo Roxas, Mr. Allan Martinez, Mr. Ian Millare,Ms. Jasmine Goforth, Mr. Joaquin Carlos de Jesus, Mr. Conrado Bugayong,Mr. Dionne Caytiles and a couple of heritage advocates also won the top prizes too!

For Carlos Roxas and the author, It was bitter sweet victory, it was a last minute reply/ entry due to slow internet connection.

I manage to get my note cards/ gift card about 1 month later. Since they only allow winners to claim them between ( Tuesday to Thursday)

For those who were not able to guess the postcards correctly, One can buy the limited note cards / gift cards at the Ortigas Library Foundation office and ideal gift for your friends, heritage advocates, postcard / note card collectors this yuletide season. Each box contains between 10 to 12 note card with various reprint of old postcards from American and Commonwealth era.

Maraming Salamat po sa inyo, Ortigas Library Foundation and Ms. Jennifer Santos.

FUJIFILMPH had been long supported breast cancer awareness and advocated on early detection for breast cancer. This is a worldwide advocacy program which started in Japan since the 1920’s.

Since October is ” National Breast Cancer Awareness Month“, Fujifilm PH is reminding women to have themselves screened and checked for breast cancer owing to the alarming rates of breast cancer in the country.

Mr. Tomoyuki Fukura, Fujifilm PH President together with Mr. Evan Reyes, Fujifilm PH Medical Division Manager during the press launch held at their office.

Even with all the advancements in the medical field, there’s still no cure for breast cancer. Early detection and prevention are still key. We at Fujifilm PH would like to appeal to women to not be afraid and have themselves checked. The higher your risk factors, the earlier you should have a mammogram,” said FUJIFILM Philippines President Tomoyuki Fukura.

He adds that women should no longer dread undergoing a mammogram because digital technology has made the test more comfortable, quicker, and practically pain- free!

According to the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development, one in every 13 Filipino women will most likely develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Research also revealed that there are more cases of breast cancer in Manila compared to other Asian Cities.

FUJIFILM Philippines, Inc. one of the most trusted camera and film brands in the world, echoes the call for regular testing for the early detection of breast cancer as the illness is still the leading cause of death among Filipino women and in some cases even men.

The mammography machines of old have caused undue stress and trauma to women that most of them do not want to go through the same experience again. However, Mr. Fukura stresses that testing and early detection are critical in lowering the mortality rate from breast cancer.

For many years now, Fujifilm has been contributing to the early detection and treatment of breast cancer through the promotion of the Pink Ribbon campaign by directing women’s awareness of this cancer.

A Visit to Gantsilyo Guru in Pasig

Gantsilyo Guru started as a hobby by the owner Ms. Trey.  She picked up her first crochet  hook when she was still at 3rd year high school home economics class.

She eventually started online yarn and supplies shop around 2015 and eventually setting up her own shop after a year or so in business.

My mother , an aunt and sister know how to crochet , Unfortunately i never pick-up the hobby , which will require long hours of crocheting and pattern weaving . I first learned the art of crochet when i was in first year high school in which it was part of the T.H.E. ( Technology , Home Economics and Livelihood Education) some of my classmates made small dress and bonnets , but after about 3 weeks, I only managed to finished a small pouch bag.  ( Not really my cup of tea)

I was invited by a friend to accompany him to buy some yarn at the supply store. We decided to just walk from SM Megamall to Shaw boulevard in Pasig . It was raining heavy and we manage to arrive around past 4:00pm at the shop.

I was impress with the large amount of yarn, supplies and books , some of which are directly imported from Japan by the owner.

We were also met by the owner/ proprietor when we visited her craft store, glad to share some of her skills and i took time venting out some of my personal life struggles. The area is well-lighted and products are clearly labeled.

The store also offers some basic lesson about crochet , try to visit their fb page .
