Flora Filipina International Exposition 2019 is a show with hundreds of native orchids, orchids from other countries and orchid hybrids.

Here are some of the award winning orchids and the pretty ones, They were exhibited at the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ( Flower Garden) within Quezon Memorial Circle facing East Avenue entrance.

1.) Best Fragrant OrchidDendrobium anosmum cv Touch of Class – grown and exhibited by Mr. Glanz Ang of Cagayan De Oro.

2. ) Best PaphiopedilumPaphiopedilum haynaldianum -grown and exhibited by Mr. Godofredo “Fred” Salud. The orchid species also won Best in Show; Best Other Genera (Sympodial) ; Best Paphiopedilum Alliance; Best Philippine Orchid Species.

6.) Best Phalaenopsis Orchid –Doritaenopsis Ching Hua Spring x Golden Poeker by Blooms and Greens exhibited by Dra. Olivia Sanchez

7.) Vanda lamellata cultivar variety debutante– This was spotted in one of the exhibit booth. The variety had bigger flowers and can be use for breeding hybrids.

8.) Grammatophyllum measuresianum – This is one of our native orchid species blooming during this time of the year. The orchid species was described in 1889.

9.) Best Foreign SpeciesDendrobium capituliforum is an orchid species found in New Guinea these occur in coastal areas and in some parts of Solomon Islands.

10 .) Phalaenopsis hieroglyphicaThis orchid species was spotted in one of the commercial stall area. A rich orchid collector reportedly bought almost the entire stock.  Another plant with flowers had been spotted within the exhibit area and won a blue ribbon.

11.) Vanda Kultana Fragrance X Vanda luzonica – This orchid hybrid won second prize. This is more free flowering in the lowlands compared its parents.

12.) Ascocentrum aurantiacum subspecies philippinense– This was recently reclassified under genus Vanda. This is a lovely small flowering orchid species with bright yellow or orange flowers.

The show is until March 5, 2019 and covered three exhibition sites, Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ( HB Garden / Flower Garden), Runnex Elevated Garden ( Bonsai and Natural Stone exhibit ) and Walkway Area facing East Avenue ( Bougainvillea and Commercial stalls)

There is a minimal entrance fees of Php 50 for the general public and Php 30 for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities ( with Id’s)

Daily Schedule of Lectures and Talks at Flora Filipina 2019

There will be daily lectures and talks from experts in the field of orchids, plants, cacti, ferns, flower arrangements and fertilization at the Flora Filipina 2019.

The event was organized by Philippine Orchid Society Inc. in partnership with Quezon City government, Quezon City Memorial Administration, Department of Agriculture, Department of Tourism and with media partner Manila Bulletin.

The daily lecture/ talk will start from February 27 to March 5, 2019. This is to pave way for the 3- day conference that the society is hosting.

Venue of the talks/ lecture will at the pavilion area in Hardin ng mga Bulaklak ( Flower Garden) within Quezon Memorial Circle facing East Avenue entrance.

Since the venue of the lecture and seminar is inside the exhibit area- There is a minimal entrance fees of Php 50 general public and Php 30 for students, senior citizens and people with disabilities with valid Id’s ( as mandated by law).

 

 

List of Big Winners at HortiKultura Filipina 2018 Show

Philippine Horticultural Society in partnership with Quezon City government , Quezon City Memorial Circle administration , Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Agriculture with sponsors like Del Monte Philippines, MDS Godspeed Exhibit Company, Uratex , Manila Bulletin, San Miguel , NutriAsia, King Louis , East West Seed Company, Allied Botanical Corporation, Harbest Agriculture Company among others had extended the exhibit and trade fair for a few more days.

There will be a few days extension for those planning buy plants for valentine’s day and chinese new year like cacti, succulents, flowering orchids , green foliage plants which are auspicious during this season.

72nd Annual Orchid and Bonsai Show

Philippine Orchid Society will be hosting their 72nd Annual Orchid and Bonsai show  from March 9 to 19,2018 at the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak, Quezon Memorial Circle , Quezon City. This year’s theme is: “Orchid Fantasies and Bonsai Grandeur”.

Orchids, ornamental and bonsai trees enthusiasts can expect a bigger and more impressive show at Philippine Orchid Society’s Orchid and Bonsai Show which will be held on March 9 to 19, 2018. With plentiful flowering orchids and bonsai trees on display at Quezon Memorial Circle (Flower Garden – entrance East Avenue Gate, just across the Quezon City Hall), Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City.

Philippine Orchid Society members :
The first general membership monthly meeting for the year will be held on January 20 (Saturday), 2018, 2:00 pm onward at the QC/POS Botanical Garden in Quezon City Hall Compound – Lagoon, Elliptical Road corner East Avenue, Elliptical Road, Diliman, Quezon City. We will be introducing to all our newly elected officers and try to hear from them their projected program for us for the next two years.

Our agenda will also include our upcoming Annual Orchid and Garden Show and short lecture discussion of Philippine Orchid Species in bloom for this season.

Please don’t forget to bring your blooming orchids for the show and tell or even your problematic plants for diagnosis of the orchid expert present.

Fancy Chickens and Other Breeds at the 4th Philippine Bantam Fanciers’ Association Show

Fancy Chickens and Heritage chicken breeds are the feature at the 4th annual Philippine Bantam Fanciers’ Association (PBFA ).

The show was in partnership with Philippine Orchid Society , Quezon City government , Mad Science, Iron Claw and sponsors held a 2-day supplemental show from March 4 and 5 at the Hardin ng mga Bulaklak within Quezon Memorial Circle in Quezon City .

The event started a little bit late than the usual show , When our small blogger group went to the show at around past 10:00 am last March 4, the organizers and members are still putting and arranging the cages and there are still some cages without chickens.

Arocana / Araucana/Ameraucana  chicken breed have their origins in South America. This breed was further developed in the United States and now gaining popularity in the country. This was later bought by a Philippine Orchid Society member  .

I also won a pair of bantam chicken a couple of shows and most of what i got are descendants of the mix breed . The announcement of winners was held at around past 4:00pm
