lomi

Lomi – We tried their version of lomi, It is good for sharing between 2 to 3 persons. It had noodles, beaten egg, kikiam, liver, meat, squid ball topped with Baguio pechay. One can add powdered pepper and calamansi to enhance the taste. The downturn of their lomi is a little bit salty.

We only paid a little over Php 180 for the entire meal. When you are within Old Sauyo road or Barangay Talipapa near Mindanao Avenue ( jeepney terminal of SM/ Trinoma- C-5/ Hortaleza Beauty Center) Do not forget to pay this food station a visit!

It is just few blocks away from the Christ the King of the Universe Parish. We did a couple of local visit to this lugawan ( Rockville)  few years ago together with a small group of local bloggers/ vloggers living within Novaliches.

This used to be the community’s favorite Laurence & Laurenz Tapsilogan at iba pa for several years before a videoke/bar opened there for about 1 year and eventually closed down last January 2019.

Humble Beginnings

The lugawan had its humble beginnings in Rockville subdivision within Barangay San Bartolome and had some popular clientele for the past 10 years. It is near the popular Ocampo Bakery ( which was once dubbed as Bakery of the Stars). Mang Boy Alfredo Lugawan also opened another branch within Villaflor Village in Barangay Gulod, Novaliches few days ago.

What makes this home grown restaurant popular, is the affordability of their rice porridge ( lugaw), bagnet, arroz caldo, bulalo and tapsilog meals.

We have visited the lugawan last night but it was still close, They just opened the lights which attracted scores of residents within the subdivision. The ambiance reflect a homey ambiance with clear, catchy signage and well-lighted place.

There is amble dining space ideal between 48 to 50 customers at any given. Given its good location and family oriented dishes. This will surely become a hit among joggers, students, parishioners, residents ,commuters, food connoisseurs and bloggers living within the vicinity.

We also think that this will give Janet’s ( another home grown restaurant in Novaliches) a big head to head battle.

lugaw-and-fried-tokwa

fried tokwa and lugaw

Lugaw ( Php 15.00 ) – Their lugaw is not too salty and a little calamansi, chili oil and pepper with enhance its spiciness.  Perfect comfort meal at any time of the day.

Fried Tokwa ( Php 10.00) This goes well as topping in any lugaw. Perfect with their special spicy vinegar dip.

Fried Lumpia ( Php 10.00 )Unfortunately, this was unavailable when we ordered at the restaurant.

lugaw-tokwa-and-beef-mami

Beef Mami ( Php 49.00) – The beef meat is tender and the noodles is not overly soggy. It also had hard-boiled chicken egg topped with fresh cabbage leaves.

Chicken Arroz Caldo ( Php 59.00) -Not too bad with thick rice porridge, chicken and calamansi. A dash of spicy chili oil and pepper will make this a little bit spicy.

Pancit Miki Bihon ( Php 60)- Thumbs up for this noodle dish- This is ideal between 1 to 2 people ( for sharing ) We were amaze with the generous topping of crispy fried bagnet.

We cannot wait to taste their famed chicken barbecue, desserts, beef misono, chicken teriyaki, pork tonkatsu, bagnet, fresh lumpia, bulalo, sizzling dishes on our next review.

Try to visit them at their FB page and have a decent review at TripAdvisor and Zomatoph.

Binalot Fiesta- Harrison Plaza, Manila opening

Harrison Plaza , Manila-Philippines

When it rains , It is a sign of many beautiful things to come.  Starting from it’s humble beginnings in the mid 1990’s , this is  Binalot’s 46th outlet in the country .Binalot had become a model for corporate social responsibility and its traditional home- cooked Filipino foods and packed the traditional way .

Corporate Social Responsibility and Preservation of Traditional  Filipino Food Wrapping :

DAHON (Dangal At Hanapbuhay para sa Nayon) Program, The company  proud to say that – an example of how both the community and the company can benefit from the same program.

Initiated at the start of 2007, DAHON helps farmers from Nagcarlan, Laguna, a quaint town nestled at the foothills of mystic Mt. Banahaw, about 100 kms. South of Manila, earn more from selling banana leaves. And as the farmers plant and sell more banana leaves, Binalot benefits because the restaurant  are ensured a steady supply of quality banana leaves at a low price. Binalot is heavily dependent on banana leaves because their meals are served wrapped in a banana leaf, which locks in the food’s flavor (Binalot is a Filipino word which means wrapped). Having that dedicated community that not only supplies the leaves, but also cuts and sanitizes them to Binalot’s specifications, eliminates added costs.

Environmental Advocacy:

Most fast food restaurants and even small eateries around the country would rely on styrofoams , plastics in their packaging . If not properly disposed -off , it can  cause environmental problems such as clogged drainage and adding to the waste problem.

The environment has also benefited from the program as leaf trimmings, which used to be thrown away by Binalot’s commissary (and therefore find their way to the city’s mounting trash heaps), are now used as compost material at the community level. Even the community chapel cum day care center has also benefited from the DAHON ( Leaf)  program, acquiring a much needed renovation and re-painting, with labor and materials provided by Binalot.

L-R Mr. Rommel Juan ( President of Binalot ) Mrs.Nerissa Clarabal , Mr John Rustia ( first customer of the branch) , Mr. George Calaraval and son

Mr. John Rustia from Caloocan City was the first customer of Binalot’s Harrison Plaza branch. As a token of appreciation from the management  , He received a goodie bag and a free leche flan meal .  Mr. Rustia was elated upon learning that he was the first customer at the branch.

The grand opening of the branch was well covered by the quadri-media from print, radio, television and even bloggers.
