Mysterious Tree within Malacañang Palace Uprooted During Typhoon Rammasun

 

A century-old acacia tree within the Malacañang Palace was uprooted during the height of Bagyong Glenda (  International name: Typhoon Rammasun ) A photo taken by Malacañang’s chief photographer Mr. Gil Nartea was distributed to media outlets on Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Typhoon Glenda placed the country capital under Typhoon Signal No. 3 packing winds up to 140 kilometers per hour. Similar scenes of felled trees were seen along the typhoon’s path.

This acacia tree is said to have been planted within the place ground during the 1880’s and had survived the Spanish regime, American , Japanese occupation, post war period .

The century -old acacia is just one of the old trees within the palace grounds.  Some palace employees believed that the tree is mysterious and doing any harm to the tree may bring misfortunes.

It is very sad note to see this heritage tree uprooted . I hope that the palace gardeners had kept some seeds of this tree for eventual replanting.
