Eating Buffet Lunch at Red Dragon Branch in Visayas Avenue

41 Visayas Avenue , Quezon City -Philippines

It was past 10:30am when we made some ocular inspection at the plant stall within Quezon Memorial Circle looking for some live flowering plants when my cousin treated me for a lunch buffet at the nearby Visayas Avenue were rows of food establishment are located .  Red Dragon Buffet restaurant -Visayas Avenue branch opened about 3 years-ago and along the restaurant strip of the avenue.

buffet corner

Even before well-known Maginhawa street and nearby street became known sa restaurant street of Quezon City , Visayas Avenue is a place where there are dozens of restaurants from well-known commercial food chains to ordinary carinderias or eateries are located .

variety of grilled and street foods like barbecue, hotdog, kikiam, squidballs among others

In fact , there are several food establishment that offer buffet lunch and supper .  Several government agencies are also located within the stretch of Visayas avenue. Department of Natural and Natural Resources, Bureau of Soil and water Management ,  National Food Authority , Bureau of Plant Industry , Philippine Information Authority , PTV channel 4 studio among others .

There are also well-known schools, churches and venue place within the stretch. Visayas avenue branch buffet cost Php 198.00 per head inclusive of drinks like softdrink  , ice tea, juice , bottomless brewed coffee .

lechon kawali -one of the restaurant best seller dish

The restaurant branch can accommodate up to 100 people at any given time .  The place is smaller compared to the other branches. At the main dish table , buffet dishes includes : breaded chicken , steam fish with tofu and tausi , chicken rolls or lumpia , lechon kawali , pork rib adobo , yang chow fried rice and pancit canton .

There is also a  dessert table with fresh slices of  pineapples , maja blanca, salad , misua soup .

Here is my accounts of the Visayas Avenue branch, When we arrive past 10:30am – Only the grilled items were on display , with brewed coffee and soft-drink bottles . We have to wait several more minutes for the Yang Chow Fried Rice and the rest of the dishes .

The place seems to be clean but not to the N.S. Amoranto branch standard . I saw a small cockroach lurking near the coffee machine , which means that the place where the coffee machine is located is not always properly cleaned by the staff.

For those who wanted to try their buffet meal, I would recommend their pork barbecue , misua soup , lechon kawali and breaded chicken .

We rate this branch based on what what we have tasted on that day , cleanliness , facilities , service and staffs .  Our overall rating is 6.25 out of possible 10 points .

Here are some of constructive criticism and observation :

1.) main dishes arrived a little bit late than we had expected.

2.) one of the hotdog on stick tasted a little bit sour – which means that it had been exposed for sometime.

3.) cockroach nymph lurking near their coffee machine, the nymph run so fast that i failed to capture in my digital camera. ( sanitation issue)

Overall, we have give this branch a slightly average passing grade and needs some supervision unlike the other branches. The price for their buffet comes CHEAP but they must try to improve on those concern.

They are open for buffet at around 10:00am but they usually start a bit late to cater to the lunch time crowd .
