15th Waling-Waling Festival at Robinson’s Place, Bacolod

This year the Orchid and Horticulture Organization of Negros, Inc. will be celebrating the 15th Waling-Waling Festival with a theme “Timeless Beauty: The Allure of the Waling” at Robinson’s Place, Bacolod City from August 28 to September 5, 2017. There will be displays of the precious collection of blooming Waling-waling of the members of the org. There will be displays showcasing how orchids can be used in flower arrangements and a photo contest also featuring the Waling-waling. Lectures will be held on orchid propagation and basic orchid fertilization among others.

After the warm summer months, the Habagat brings in the moonsoon to water the parched lands in the southern part of the Philippine archipelago. This abundance of rain after months of dryness, triggers as a form of celebration, the blooming of the Queen of Philippine Orchids, the magnificent Vanda sanderiana, more popularly known as the Waling-Waling. During these times, festivals and shows are being held extolling its unique beauty and proclaiming its importance in orchid horticulture through the multitude of hybrids made from it.

All orchid and plant enthusiasts and hobbyists are invited to visit and enjoy this once a year display of the Waling-waling.
