Reunion of Descendants of Asian Revolutionary Heroes at Pandesal Forum

 A rare and unique experience for the attendees at the pandesal forum. It was the first ever reunion of descendants of the top leaders behind Asia’s earliest republics and anti-colonial revolutions, who supported each other. President Emilio Aguinaldo in 1898 who sent emissary Mariano Ponce and whose cause received support from China’s Dr. Sun Yat Sen (who also became president after the success of his revolution in 1911).

The site of the pandesal forum is at the historic Kamuning bakery. The bakery still uses  brick oven to bake their pandesal and other pastries.

Dr. Lily Sun Sui-Fong – She is a Hawaii property developer, philanthropist & granddaughter of China’s revolutionary hero and first republican President Dr. Sun Yat Sen, who supported the 1898 Philippine Revolution. The foundation that was named after his grandfather gave about 250 statues of Dr. Sun Yat Sen in different parts of the world.
Mr. Charles Wong – great grandson of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. He is also fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese languages.

15th Waling-Waling Festival at Robinson’s Place, Bacolod

This year the Orchid and Horticulture Organization of Negros, Inc. will be celebrating the 15th Waling-Waling Festival with a theme “Timeless Beauty: The Allure of the Waling” at Robinson’s Place, Bacolod City from August 28 to September 5, 2017. There will be displays of the precious collection of blooming Waling-waling of the members of the org. There will be displays showcasing how orchids can be used in flower arrangements and a photo contest also featuring the Waling-waling. Lectures will be held on orchid propagation and basic orchid fertilization among others.

After the warm summer months, the Habagat brings in the moonsoon to water the parched lands in the southern part of the Philippine archipelago. This abundance of rain after months of dryness, triggers as a form of celebration, the blooming of the Queen of Philippine Orchids, the magnificent Vanda sanderiana, more popularly known as the Waling-Waling. During these times, festivals and shows are being held extolling its unique beauty and proclaiming its importance in orchid horticulture through the multitude of hybrids made from it.

All orchid and plant enthusiasts and hobbyists are invited to visit and enjoy this once a year display of the Waling-waling.

The PHILIPPINE BONSAI SOCIETY, INC which is celebrating their 41st anniversary is inviting everyone to visit its NATIONAL BONSAI EXHIBITION & COMPETITION 2014 on May 23 to June 1, 2014 

  Venue of the Bonsai Exhibition and Competition will be at the People’s Village 1  and 2 of TIENDESITAS in Pasig City.

This show is being held in celebration of their 41 years of promoting bonsai growing and appreciation in the country and promises to be unique as it has partnered with BONSAI CLUBS INTERNATIONAL by bringing in no less than BCI president himself Dr. Thomas S. Elias (USA) and BCI regional coordinator Mr. Budi Sulistiyo (Indonesia) to lead the judging and to conduct the lectures and workshops together with bonsai masters Yen Tzu-Ching and Tang Chin-Feng from Taiwan.

The show will feature the best bonsai collections in the Philippines from participants coming from Mindanao up to the Ilocos provinces , free Bonsai lectures and demonstrations, basic and advance bonsai workshops, a Suseiki competition with a critique session, a driftwood arts exhibition and a plants and garden bazaar offering bonsai plants, ornamental, garden supplies and other garden products.

I was able to buy some Philippine vintage reproduction of famous landmarks  like Binondo Church, San Agustin Church, Puerta de Parian, Fort Santiago , San Miguel Beer Brewery  postcards printed by Bookmark,   the Filipino Store sometime in the mid 1990’s . Most of the postcards on sale were the last remaining stocks held by the group.
