Throwback Expo 2019 in Makati

Throwback Expo 2019 will be held at the Activity area 1, Makati Cinema Square, Pasong Tamo,Makati from September 20 to 22 , 2019 from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm.

There will be about 30 stall holders which will be selling a lot of vintage stuffs which range from antiques, toys, figurines, cassette tapes, game console, banknotes, coins, stamps, comics, books and among others.

Makati Cinema Square is known to be a favorite hang out place by Batang 80’s and 90’s.  There will be toy auction, retro music from the 1970’s to the 1990’s. Hence the tagline ” Relieve your childhood with us! ”

Among the booth sellers includes Modern Vintage Collectibles PH , Comic Odyssey, Dekada and many others.

Unlike other bazaars within Metro Manila, There were no entrance fees!

Big Winners at the Urban Jungle in SM Sucat

National Cactus and Succulent Organization of the Philippines, Incorporated  (NCSOPI) in partnership with SM City Sucat, Atrium area, Parañaque have a week-long show called “Urban Jungle“.

The winners were given ribbon and the 1st place also got trophy and gift certificate from SM, Prizes includes Php 1000, Php 500, Php 300 for mini and table top. For all cactus dish Php 2000, Php 1000 and Php600 worth of gift certificates.

Philippine Hamsters Owner Society Celebrates 7th Anniversary

Philippine Hamsters Owner Society (PHOS) celebrated their 7th anniversary at the 3rd Floor, Function room of Star Mall, EDSA Shaw, Mandaluyong City.

There were guppies, syrian hamsters, white mice, sugar gliders, rabbits, flowerhorn, snakes, frogs and other small pets.

There were raffles and swap meet among members of the society and  is open to the general public.

My friend Achilles went there at the show yesterday also saw some gerbils on display and pet supplies for sale.

At the end of the two-day exhibit and bazaar, Olongapo Rabbit and Rodents Club won “Best Hamster Group ” and ” Best Hamster Display“.

Samu’t Saring Tikim Fair 2019 at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center

Department of Environment and Natural Resources- Biodiversity Bureau celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity on May 22, 2019 .

The event started with a welcome remark from Ms. Armida P. Andres (OIC Assistant Director -Biodiversity Management Bureau) past 8:30 am.

There were book launching of “Public Parks and Open Green Spaces ” by Ms. Rosalyn Veneracion – treasurer : Alliance for Safe and Sustainable Reconstruction (ASSURE). and ” Native Plants of Boracay Wetlands” with Atty. Allan Barcenna ( Head -Corporate Social Responsibility, Energy Development Corporation)

Inspiration message was  given by ASec Mr. Ricardo L. Calderon (OIC-Assistant Secretary for Staff Bureaus and Concurrent Director , BMB.

There were also lectures by Dr. Leila S. Africa – Diet Diversification, Traditional and Sustaninable Filipino Diet/s . She is the director -Institute of Human Nutrition Health practices.

Traditional and Modern Medicine: Recognition and Practice of Indigenous and Traditional Health Practices by Dr. Francis Vicente Ras.

By past 10:30 there was a cooking demonstration by Lusog Tikim by Mr. Angelo S. Viray ( Wise Meals -entrepreneur) , Bulilit Tikim by Ms. Diffeny Vernie Chua ( Healthy Baby Food Ideas PH) and Balik Tikim by Ms. Roxinne Stephani T. Rey, Jr. ( CSR Officer , Teletech )

Some of the dishes included insects which generated a lot of interests among the visitors ,guests and denr staffs.

After the hearty morning meal and lunch, Philippine Native Plant Conservation Society Inc. by Ms. Carmen Felicisima Odulio and volunteers by the organization led a native / edible tree walk within the park.

The tree walk started around past 1:00 pm and ended past 2:30 pm with over 25 participants from nearby barangays in Quezon City, Tandang Sora and University of the Philippines.

Second Wave of RETRO Convention 2019 at Ali Mall

Retro Convention (RetroCon)2019 second wave had another successful trade fair, exhibit and show held at the iconic Ali Mall from March 30 and 31, 2019. This was organized by the same team behind the popular HistoryCon and supported by management of Ali Mall and Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City.

First Wave

The first wave was held last March 22 to 24 with Binibining Pilipinas 2019 candidates and Araneta Center management were on site to meet and greet their well wishers and collectors. The first wave also pave way for the reopening of ALI X, Ali Mall’s new wing that is home to all things vintage that are for sale.

We would remember that some of the old time serious collectors would have stalls, hosted swap- meets and hang-out area (tambayan) within Ali Mall.

Mr. Elmer Padilla (Boy Tsinelas)

Mr. Elmer Padilla is more popularly known as “Boy Tsinelas“. He originally hailed from Catbalogan City in Samar province and decided to relocate to Imus, Cavite province in order to seek better pasture. He started to craft some well loved action figures by using old flip-flops as a medium to makes both ends meet.

He caught a netizen’s attention and posted his photos on Facebook, and was reposted in several pages around September 2017.

His crafts were presented to Mr. Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) an action figure from Filipino artist Elmer Padilla – Thor star Chris Hemsworth got one as well.

There were at least 50 table bourse dealers with different kinds of unique items ranging from old magazines, photos, banknotes, coins, wood carvings, stamps, first day covers, antiques, tin robots, kewpie dolls, tektite, car plate numbers, soft drink bottles, stuff toys, game consoles, comics, books, rosaries, emphameras among other stuffs.

There were other interesting actives like on the spot raffles, traditional games that were played on streets like tatsing, teks game cards among others.

Saw some familiar faces, friends and co-pickers within the group. There were live performances and on the spot auction for those looking for vintage items.

Another highlight are the different comic artists and on the spot sketching activities. Unlike other events, It is open to the general public and there were no entrance fees!
